Hey Dakka,

I have a Mordheim rules question for you, seeing as my friends and I just started to try out the system. Problem is, we hit a pretty tight snag right out of the gate that severely affects gameplay. (Ever try charging a huge blob of models that can each intercept each other, insuring that you get only 1v1 fights across the charge zone?)

I had a friend insist that model GREEN could intercept charger BLUE as he charged model RED. Assume GREEN is within 2" of the very front of RED's base, which would be the end of the 'charge route'. See image below.

(AFAIK, posting sections of the rulebook is OK, seeing as how GW had them up for free on their site and the game is discontinued. Let me know if I'm wrong!)

I leave this matter in your capable hands

I've never seen or heard of intercepting played that way. I guess with a creative reading of the rules you could interpret "lies within 2" of the charge route" that way.

However, that being said, the diagrams you included clearly indicate what "within 2" of the charge route" means. The 'interception area' is shown (and referenced) in the text, and makes no mention of being behind the target, but in between the target and the charger.

This is how I read it as well, especially since the rules make specific reference to the diagram. Thanks!

Anyone else agree/disagree?

Firstly General Disarray, where is Professor Chaos?

Back on topic, Cruentus is correct, you must be in the interception area, you cannot be behind the model beind charged. The idea behind intercepting is that you are moving over to intercept before the guy gets to your friend, not moving up frmo behind him.
I'll give you a +1 for thinking outside the box, and trying to get creative with the rules, but in this instance, it is pretty cut and dry, that no, you cannot intercept from the rear.

Now go ahead and take that out of context to make me look like a fool.
