I hate combos so much. I feel like I'm playing FF7 with the way I have to wait to even get a chance to hit back. It seems like after the competitive MvC2 scene every game has gone that way. I miss being able to strategically counter with just a super and working extra hard to get those hits in. I've gotten better at it, but it just sucks that you have to do it to even stand a chance. I'd love to see something akin to the various modes they've had in some of the games where a character can only chain 2 or 3 moves max, but damage and priority is increased a little or something of that nature to encourage varying play styles. Anyone feel the same?

Yeah, I agree. It's like you can't even just fight anymore, it's combos....

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

I played some MvC3 the other day, and it was the first fighting game I've played in about five years. It was certainly a far cry from my old Mortal Combat days, and I had about as much success randomly button mashing as I did actually trying to figure moves.
Not my favored genre.

Thing is, I liked having six buttons and having complexity in terms of changing mechanics every game and subtle intricacies like Ken's hadouken changing firing frame and hitbox size, and I love the genre still. I just don't like the fact that my mega super move connects not meaning anything compared to some guy linking the same 3 punches in a corner nine times in a row and doing quadruple the damage. On the 3 button Capcom games many characters can combo L, crouching L, M, crouching M, H, Air Combo Launcher then some Air Combo shenanigans, all of which lasts for a good 5 secs of match time. That's 5 seconds of me not fighting, just sitting there hating myself and wishing I could play too. Maybe if it opened a combo animation and it happened super fast or something I'd feel better about it, but it's just super frustrating.
