So my FLGS is running a mangled metal tournament in two weeks was thinking about this list

Asyxius
Cankerworm
Reaper
Death-ripper
Rip-jaw

My thinking is that I can overwhelm people with speed and numbers.

I'm a new player so any thoughts or tweaks would help greatly.

Looks good, assuming that's Asphyxious1 and not 2.

Thinking about the list I can see it working really well. Use the reaper to drag stuff into charge range of the two armour piercing lights. Spread scything touch (and possibly parasite) around and see the enemy crumble. The problem lies with the reaper, as soon as that's gone you've got to get your distances correct else the light jacks will die quickly.

I played the list last night against the Menoth starter box. I used the Ripjaw and Reaper to tie up his jacks and the cankerworm to finish off the big one. I was able to kill off Kreoss 3rd turn.

One of the Cryx players recommended changing out the Reaper for the other harpoon jack that has better RAT but I don't own the model.

All in all I'm pretty happy with how it played. My biggest concern is what I don't know. What I mean by that is what lists could I run in to trouble against?

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

your thinking of Malice, he is better however he also costs 2 more pts. so you'll have to drop likely the death ripper and upgrade something else. Problem is the other models you could upgrade the ripjaw, to would be a reaper or slayer which may or may not actualy be an upgrade depending on how you feel for the scenario.

The other thing you could do, along a similar tactic is change the reaper to a Slayer and with the extra point upgrade the death ripper to a second ripjaw. The idea is you run the slayer forward grab the most dangerous war jack and double handed throw them over to the pile of light jacks that proceed to destroy. The slayer is likely then to get dog piled but he was really a sacrafice anyway to get rid of your biggest danger. Also it gives you 3 jack now with armor piercing wich will make just about anyone sweat.

As for what could mess you up, you have two things that I can think of.
1) is that your only killing power really is the Ripjaw and Canker worm. they are hard to hit but it can really only take one good shot to disable your armor piercing system and your then your sunk.
2) I see a good long ranged enamy being a tough one for you. as in above they pile on the focus boost attack and damage and pound your two armor piercers out and move on. To fight this you might have to just do away with the tricky drag tactic and just rush in fast and take your hits.

If you were fighting an exact mirror army I would run 1 arc node close to either/both Canker or Ripjaw, then Gaspy shoots hellfire through the node, needs an 8 or 7 respectively to hit and its just about dice in damage so he boosts that and wipes out one of your two threats or both if he has range and pops the feet for the extra focus.

@Aleis,

Thanks man, that's really helpful insight and something to think about. Most of everyone that is going to play are recent 40k converts (myself included) so it should be interesting....

Since this is a tournament is there a reason you have not chosen pGoreshade?

The list looks good, if fragile. It also lacks a beatstick Warjack IMO.

My favourite 15 point mangled metal list is.

Mortenebra & Deryliss
Reaper
Slayer
Slayer

The biggest reason for running gaspy is that I don't own goreshade, I only have pDenny and pGasspy

With Asphyxious1 you have a beatstick in the warcaster himself. Feat plus scything touch should take anything down. Add in parasite if needed.

next to a stop sign

On a personal note, for Cryx in Mangled Metal I prefer...

eSkarre
- Deathjack
- Malice

...for tournaments, but don't expect to earn friends with the list.
