Hey all, just had a quick question about one of Forge Worlds newer models.

I was browsing the website looking for fun bits to convert my Crimson Fists army with and ran across the Laser Rapier Destroyer. For 180 points you can get a battery of 3 of these things and 6 space marine crew.

Link to Forgeworld's public site: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/s/Space_Marine_Rapier.pdf

each of them Fires a str 9 ap 2 ordinance blast at 36" and with the new artilery rules the marines can sit out front and bask in the T 7 conferred on them by the cannon itself.

Couple this with a Defense Line and you have one hard hitting midfield domination unit with decent survivability.

Since all Forge World models are supposedly going to be legit in the future what are your thoughts on fielding a squad of these? Perhaps in conjunction with a thunderfire cannon for long range work, or wiht a solo techmarine for sgt spot and cover buff?

I'm in the process of building my pedro-sternguard army list ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/465386.page) and thought a 2 Destroyer Battery might be a fun thing to mull over as a swap for one of my thunderfires, though it would cost me some long range fire support.

Plus the models are stunning and would give me an excuse to expand my collection

What do you guys think?

It's not a blast weapon, it's a single shot.

They already are "legit", and have been for a long time. The fact that some people dislike FW rules and ban them from their events does not change the fact that GW's clearly stated policy is that FW rules are "official" and intended for use in standard games of 40k.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

crap, must have misread that. At least it's twin linked. Odd that it only has a 36" range as opposed to the Lascannon's 48".

However, 3 twin linked lascannons for 180 points with 3 ablative wounds (cause you need the other three crew to fire all the cannons) doesn't seem all that bad as a devastator squad kitted out the same way (3 lascannons) would come in at 195 points.

That gives you only 2 ablative wounds (Sgt and 5th squad member), no twin linked, however you do get to reach out an additional 12".

Wasn't aware that FW was already legit. Most of the local shops I play in don't have many people with the newer FW gear and seem to have a bias against playing with them. I'm not a tournament player currently (thought once I hit 3rd year of grad school I'm hoping to squeeze in the time for one) but have the rules at these events started to change to allow FW or is it a variable thing depending on the rules and regulations of any particular event?

The rules may be legit, but few tournaments count with them...Which is the reason why many players ignore them completely and refuse to play against them.

Pro: Use it as a Thunderfire cannon. About the same size and looks cooler.

Yeah, love the look of these models, especially the crew.
