Been playing 40k for a little over a year now, and I am just starting up a Vampire Counts army to get into fantasy. I am loving the lore in the Warhammer fantasy and it seems to have less plot conflicts in it then 40k has, though this might just be because I am new to it.

So is the lore in fantasy just better written with fewer inconsistencies than 40k? Or can you guys point out the plot holes and times your armies lore was butchered between editions? For all I know the Skaven could have started out like the Tyranid, a mindless race trying to consume all life, and then been morphed into a semi intelligent race with personalities by a writer who took it upon himself to improve them according to his own vision for them.

Alone in the warp.

From what I've read it seems more stable, but I haven't been in it for XXX years like others, they hay have different opinions.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Ive played for 20 years and not much has changed. That being said Ive always thought that 40k lore despite some major plot holes was always better written (and I am a die hard fantasy fan)

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

40K has a lot of fluff. It has an awful lot of books. Paperback and such. There are a TON of names in it. Like personalities doing this and that.

WHFB seems more like a setting. They bring up Sigmar a lot, but he's long long dead. One thing the books do that made me think of 40K and how different they were is they sprinkle a lot of cliffhangers. Like they'll say, "there's a haunted tree house in vampire land that even vampires are scared of." And that's all they'll say. Which is kind of a springboard for players to say "I'M FROM THAT TREE HOUSE." Or make a campaign around it. Or whatever. But in 40K, I just get the idea they will tell you who is in it, what color their armor is, who they married, and who they died to.

This is supposedly being fixed in the upcoming WoC book this year.

From what I understand, the only major change over the years was the change to Slann.

I can't think of any major plot holes really. The Lizardmen book explains the origins of most races.

The majority of WFB lore is based around the Empire, Chaos, High and Dark Elves, and Orcs/Goblins. The other armies mostly exist within stories about those armies I listed. Some armies exist in almost solitude, like Tomb Kings and Ogres, whose lands are rather far removed from the majority of other races. Lizardmen aren't so far away since many races send expeditions to Lustria.

The only holes that exist are for areas that haven't been fleshed out, but have been mentioned, like Ind, Cathay and Nippon.
