I have been having some trouble getting into the swing of things with 6th edition. So I was wondering what im doing wrong with my list. my usual list is a LR redeemer with TH termis and vulcan. a tac squad
a scout squad, a vindicator, bastion with las, stormtalon with skyhammer, sternguard with a mix of combi melta and combi flamer. then an ironclad in a drop pod.

I would lose the scout squad and the bastion and just go for an Aegis Defence Line with quad gun and another tactical squad (for more meltas and flamers). Try to fit 3 pods for a double-whammy 1st turn with the ironclad and sterns, supported by the Redeemer.
Not sure about the lone vindicator, you could keep it behind the defence line for a really strong defensive position. I'm afraid that if you push it forward it's gonna get popped quick. I would try to run a second (maybe even 3rd) one.
Rhinos with devastator squad could be good too, take a full squad with 2 MLs and 2 MMs, combat squad, leave the 2 MLs behind the defence line and put the 2 MMs in the rhino, moving forward TL MM snapshots...
Hope this gives you some ideas...

Also consider putting the Stern in a pod too. Lots of melta death up close is their specialty.

I'm not a fan of the single Vindi or the single LR. Both work better in multiples.
Lose the Bastion and get a defense line if you want a fortification. Or drop them altogether and get another Stormtalon. Or switch to MM/HF or MM/MM Land Speeders, which are boss with Vulkan.
I run a similar setup, but don't have just one Vindi or just one LR in any list. In any given Vulkan list, take more Flamers and more Melta, and drop other stuff.

I've loved 6th Ed with my salamanders. I've always run a mostly hoard space marine army so it's helped me immensely. 2-3 vindicators are disgusting in this edition and terrifying psychologically to an opponent. And obviously you wanna synergize with vulkan chapter tactics. So the normal things are still useful. Melta, Flamer, and thunder hammers. My problem with land raiders is they're a huge target and you can get an extra 7 TH/SS termies for the price of the land raider. I've been using sternguard in pods with Lysander at 2k as absolute troop annihalaters in drop pods.
