Subject: What are the "old ones"?

Can someone fill me in on what the old ones are. They are referenced in my codex.
|
"Archon Yulliptidon sat apon a throne made of polished glass, which gleamed with magnificence in the rays of the dying suns, beautifully suspended above the the many razor sharp peaks that where Commorragh. The archon held within his hands a a delicate pyramid of sculpted crystal, from which emitted a faint glow, an echo of the soundless screams of pain belonging to countless tortured souls forever trapped within. The room in which the archon sat in was something like a throne room, but displayed apon the walls where helm of every color, but all the same in size and shape. Some bore eagles on their foreheads, and others still contained the decapitated heads of their previous owners. Two huge, beautifully carved iron double doors, engraved with intricate runes of pain and suffering, opened at the far end of the room, to reveal a tall, elegant dark eldar warrior, clad in armor made from bone and flesh. "lord Yulliptidon, you asked for my presence?" Said the arrival, " to what do I owe the pleasure?". The archon raised his elongated head, skin as pale as a full moon, eyes as vivid as a horrible nightmare. " I did not ask for you, Thrayon, I ordered your presence. Do not think to much for your self, for truly, you are not much past a feral that one would find on the streets. As for why I have ordered you to my palace, it is because their is a task that I wish you to preform. I wish you and you kabal to cleanse the imperial out fort of Sargosain Gastienagan." Thrayon was both aghast and interested at what the archon had just said. "Such a task would stretch my kabal to its limits, only a great reward would be enough to do a deed like this." Yulliptidon was outraged by the the proposal of a "great reward" by Thrayon, but did not let his anger show, hiding it with a cold smile that hid his evil intentions surprisingly well. The archon was was famous for never telling a lie in his life, but was very fond of veiled double speak, and this was no exception. "Do not worry, Thrayon, you shall receive what you deserve." Thrayon, happy with this outcome, left to carry out Yulliptidons task. Little did he know what was coming. Thrayon had done a thousand evil deeds, and what he deserved was a horrible death equal to to all those he had caused. Yulliptidons smiled. He was going to have fun."

Physically in the 4th edition necron codex there was a "hunt down the devolved old ones" mission that suggested using the WFB lizard men giving a nod to the whole necrons = tomb kings in space idea.
In fluff the old ones were people who had really long life spans and built the first webway. The Necrons (then called the necrontyr) got pissy since there home star sucked and have them all super-cancer killing them around 40. They declared two wars on the old ones before the C'tan gave them strategic superiority. In their bid to keep in the war and not be eaten by the lifeforce (not soul) consuming material gods the old ones created the orks ancestors and the eldar and a lot of other stuff.
Super basic run down as it is almost 6am and I can't sleep

Ergo, Hope is evil, and you should stop having it, but you can't have despair because then Nurgle gets a free ride. You could be angry about this, but that'd just get Khorne's jollies off. And heck you can't even get your own jollies off without Slaanesh giggling and farting out some daemons. And if you manage to avoid all that, some genestealers might infiltrate your planet and bring a hive fleet crashing down on you any way. |

They were the first spacefaring race in the galaxy.
Pre-eldar. A very long time ago. It is suggested that they created life on many places (including earth).
In the 4th ed Necron Fluff, they necryotyr got jellous of the Old Ones civilsation so they sold out to the Ctan. Eventually the Necrons won the war. but the old ones were using lots of psyker as a last ditch defense. This caused the Necrons to retreat to their tombs. I think the Old Ones kind of disapeared also, to be replaced by one of their creations, the Eldar.

The necrontyr went to war because they petitioned the Old Ones to save them from their meager life spans. The OO continuously denied them their plea, and the necrontyr out of bitter resentment, went to war to rip the secret to immortality from the OO cold dead fingers!
They were beaten like red headed step children in the shopping mall by the old ones until, the Ctan stepped in and offered their services in exchange for one small price... their lives. And so, with a process the Ctan created, the Necrontyr all threw away their biological self, and imprinted their minds into robotic shells, thus birthing the Necron race, the rest is.. well... war in the grimdark past XD

I stand corrected.
Haven't read 5th ed, did they retcon the Old Ones much in it? I heard they compleatly changed the rest of the fluff.

Meh, the Old ones didn't really change too much. Big changes with what the C'tan are and how they interact with the Necrons

Iirc the Old ones also created, or were rumoured to have, the orks as another defence against necrons, as well as the eldar and the blackstone fortress's (or was that just the eldar?) They were powerful highly advanced technogly akin to god like from what I remember reading before, akin to the ancients in SG universe imo

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |
