Hey.
I'm new to the whole wargaming and with the expection of games workshop store on union street I was wondering wither or not there was any other clubs about?
I've just started 40k if it's any help to people.

So you think you're tough, eh?

Hey man, I'm just leaving Glasgow for Toronto, but I can definitely recommend the GW on Union Street, and Glasgow Gaming Group/G3, which is located near the bottom of Great Western Road. They have a facebook group, if you join that then you can arrange games, and theres quite a few guys who play there who are just starting out.

At the GW tuesday nights are for beginners, and open till 8, while thursday is available for everybody and the shop is open till 10. Just drop in and say hi to folk, you should be able to get a game no bother.

Sure thing mate, heres the link http://www.facebook.com/groups/g3gamers/

They play pretty much every game there i.e. malifaux, warmachine (loads of good warmachine players), infinity, dropzone commander etc., so if you want to try any of those out as well theres plenty of guys who could give you a demo.

Its at woodside hall on glenfarg street on tuesday evenings. Hope you get on well!

A lapse in my viglant watch over the find a game forum? 0.0

^^ Heh, not really. Hey there, as a side of what's already been said; club membership of G3's £5 for a year (which nets you a 10% discount on all purchases over £10 at Static Games, and changes nightly club charges from £3 to £2). The first night's free however, and if your not actually participating in games in subsequent nights you don't have to pay either. Hours are about 6-10:30. I'm not always there to play, but I do usually have my Chaos Space Marine army with me (1500-2000pts generally), but there's plenty of 40k players if you find yourself stuck for a game (...and"Dougie" usually has a half dozen Imperial armies in the back of his boot just in case...).

Oh, and we don't have a singal Realm of Battle board...just in case you hate the sight of them. ...Just saying.

Hi, I'll be back in Glasgow come September time. So if you want to meet up for a game then at the Games Workshop on Union Street it'd be grand. =)

Wow, I honestly can say I've never heard of this G3. Is it open for anyone to join?

Thanks,

Marsden

If you are interested in reading a narrative, plot driven battle report I would very much appreciate you checking out "The Red Cuff Rebellion Campaign" here:

@Marsden

^^ Aye, anyone can join. We've got a pretty decent coverage of the major wargaming systems, plus a good few roleplaying groups too (think I seen some Transformers roleplayers last week...). Your fine to just show up any night we're on, though we do have a Facebook group and forum (links to our other sites via that page). Membership's gone up a lot over the summer, so the place can get pretty packed on the average night nowadays (ie if you've got a game arranged turn up early and get a table sorted out before the rush...just don't do your back in on the stairs).

I would say that the club's a bit more mature than Games Workshop in terms of age, ranging from early twenties upwards. Just to advise you about any foul language. As a plus though, the hall's fairly spacious, and a lot of the guy's have misses' to put up with, so the gamer's odor isn't quite as prevalent. XD

Well I'm on the Facebook group now and everyone seems throughly nice with the newbie which is always nice. I think I would get the membership just for the money off in static games as I've spent over £100 there this month (well spent mind).
I'm just looking forward to this Tue where me and my trusty (never battled with) Tau find someone kind enough to show us the game :p

Just a quick note; this is not the case! It's not been our policy for several years now. It was too hard to police, and was ditched after rather rampant abuse.

Other than that, thanks for bringing in some fresh victims - sorry, fellow gamers.

Wrymalla, who are you in "real life"?

Hi all, we aren't just on on Facebook, although that is a great way to arrange a game etc....we have a site for info and maps at http://www.g3gamers.co.uk, we are dead easy to find, and we will make sure that you aren't left standing around like a spare rib on your first night.

Its not just 40k here either, Malifaux, Warmachine and stuff like DropzoneCommander are all also well represented!

If you need more info just send me a PM here, or email me via the g3gamers site.

how no?

Ah right, sorry, I remember another member saying the first night was free recently and was quoting that. Thanks for the clarification. =)

^^ I'm Fraser, the pictures in my gallery are old, but they're of my last Guard army. I think my real name's actually in the credits of a couple of threads as concept artist/fluff writer for a game I helped out on actually.

It's okay I think I can stretch to a whole £7 my first night :p
And that nice. I've always found our subculture a very inclusive one so I had no worries about being left standing like a fool. Plus I'm loud enough that I'd not care hahaha

@ Wyrmalla. I think implying that those who play in the shop are less mature than those at G3 is not 100% true. I would agree there are plenty more younger gamers but still plenty of mature gamers in store, who if you get to know are top notch just so as your not put off on coming into the store Dand218.
There is defo more chance of you getting a table at G3 as the store has limited tables, and can get busy. Having been to G3 myself I would advise going as everyone is happy to help n give you a game.

Another forum maybe to try is Caledonian deathwatch.

=P I was trying to be polite and say there's a minimum age limit, rather than assume he wasn't an ankle-biter. There may be alright guys at the GW store, but there's also a lot more tossers there than I've found at G3 too. Not to put a bad word against it, but I just find that it has a more uptight atmosphere than the club myself.

Dand218 I only got into the hobby when I moved back to Scotland after living away, as a means to get to know like-minded folks socially. Been playing for 4 years now, and can absolutely recommend the GW store as a good way to get to know folks and get a game. Met a lot of good friends there and have a great laugh on a regular basis. Thursday nights are better than tuesdays to get a game though it is busy.

Don't let folks put you off going into the store, there can be one or two that are a wee bit unpleasant but also there a lot of good players that know the rules a lot better and and will invite you for games at their places, more so than clubs around Glasgow in my experience, though the clubs are good too.

this is a great forum for Scottish players - we arrange small, friendly tournaments on it as well as a good place to get a game and discuss army lists : http://caledoniandeathwatch.freeforums.org/index.php

A good club in Clarkston, which I appreciate is a bit out the way for you in the West End, but great guys there : http://z4.invisionfree.com/staidanswarriors/index.php?

And this Facebook group, whilst it used to be good to arrange a game has gone downhill recently, but still worth a shot: https://www.facebook.com/groups/45929976401/" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> https://www.facebook.com/groups/45929976401/

And if your ever stuck for a game gave me a PM as I'm always up for playing and meeting new people

Hey all. Had my first game at G3 last week was awesome. Sadly had to miss this week. Family issues.
But yeah I'll have a look at the death watch forums tomorrow (:

Though I've managed to get my flatmate into it and he has went for the Necrons. How overpowered is that bloody Doomsday Cannon!!!! anyone got any advice against it?
With da Boyz it seems to be run up and get the warboss or hope my weirdboy rolls a 5 when grouped with some killy nobz. I'd like something a little more sure fire.

@Hlaine Larkin mk2 There's actually quite a few of these threads here with the same information, but youknow, its always nice to introduce yourselves.^^

If your at the University of Glasgow I can't offhandedly recall them having a soc for wargaming proper (sci-fi yes, but ruled by Magic players). That's just from my mates who're there, and hell, might not even be relevant to you. XD

It's Strathclyde I'm going to and the only "geek" soc is a 360 club :L
