So I tried out Purity Seal and was really disappointed with how much it flattened the colors. Does anyone know of a good sealer that won't do that? I'd love to hear from people that have tried multiple sealers and people that are picky, as I am!

Purity seal is crap. Dont use it. I'm not a fan of any of GW's modelling products, really. I use Testors basecoat and varnish and Vallejo paint. The best sealer out there is Testers, imo. You are going to either have a gloss coat or dull coat. There really isnt many ways around it. The gloss coat is excellent on forces like eldar, nids and some space marine chapters. Dullcoat goes really well with everything else.

Id like a matte coat as I paint certain parts glossy afterwards. How does the Testors matte effect color?

they just make the surface flat, like any flat house paint would look. I like the finish it provides, myself.
I would take a picture of 2 of my terminators, but i dont have a camera, a photobucket or something similar, and i dont know how to put them in the thread as it is, lol.

No worries, thanks for the advice. On the pic side, if you ever want to post pics use imgur. You upload it on their site, no login or anything and it gives you a link to copy paste.

Most matte varnishes will change the colors slightly, even Dullcoat. However, the effect you get from using it is totally worth it. I would recommend highlighting a little more than you normally would because Dullcoat seems to wash out highlights.
It also kills metallic paint by dulling it so much. Always go back and highlight the metallic paint after you Dullcoat.

Metallic paints under a decent matte coat still have a distinct luster. I actually prefer the look of most metals after a shot of Dullcote - unless you're aiming to represent a near-mirror finish, bright, shiny metals look cartoonish, destroying any sense of scale. Think of the slight dulling as a free dose of atmospheric perspective.
