I generally think that all GW products are overpriced, and shop mainly at my local independent, but after seeing the new box set I pre-ordered immediately. It looks like great value for money and the models are mouth watering.

Just wanted to know your opinion? Is it a must have for you or were you less than impressed/have been better boxes before?

Are you planing to build an chaos IG list ? Do you have a starting DA army you want to expand ? No then you dont need the models .

If you are interested in at least one of the two armies then the starterset can be worth the money.
The miniatures appear to be very detailed ( one only has to wonder if they are cast properly...) and if you don't need
all miniatures then you can sell the spare ones for a good price on ebay.

Yes exactly as previous posts.
If only ou are going to start or you already have an army and you want to add.
But still I needed to found someone to trade the DA cause I neither gonna play them or convert them to chaos.
Chaos on the other hand serves me as CSM and cultists will make good add for my Renegades army!

Killing is easy. Being politically correct is a pain in the ass...

Well there are 2 answers to your question OP.

If you are normal, than you would perceive this to be expensive purchase.

If you have fallen to GW's pricing over the years, than this is God's miracle price.

lol, its true.

Why do you need to be building a chaos IG list? There will be rules for cultists in starter set probably, if. It new codex with them in out next month...

But, this is one of the most incredible box sets that Games Workshop has ever produced. As soon as you lift up its blood-splattered lid, you'll be faced with two astonishingly detailed armies.

I assume the blood gets on the box from the clamouring hordes of fans bludgeoning each other with this gift from god as they wade through the lesser... fans..., those deemed unworthy of such a purchase through trial of combat, with their fists full of cash and their heart's swelling with pride.

I highly doubt one as prestigious at GW would resort to over hyping a new product to such an extent without it being completely true. Think of the horror and dismay the world would be filled with if they were just talking it up to get some more cash.

I am restarting 40k so it was a good deal for me and come just at the right time, saves me buying a big rule book, gives me some SM to pratice painting on and I can use them as allies for my planned 30k RG army and most importantly gives me something to play with now. Ordered two sets and will be trading the Chaos with another guy in my gaming group for more SM's so that should be quite a few points there

If I was starting either of the armies, I'd still look elsewhere (While I no longer play the game, my armies were mostly assembled by snapping up second hand bargains (3rd and 4th hand in some cases) - it's the only affordable way to do it here.)

I'm not a fan of the new sculpts anyway. 3rd ed got marines right - the rest has simply been fine-tuning the sprues. 4th and 5th ed starters were a step backwards IMO (to 2nd ed) and not in a good way.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Meh I am starting DA and my bro CSM so we just split it 50/50 and I find the smaller rulebook to be useful so I think its still worth it

Let's see. You get two starting armies (approximately 500/600 points), plus a set of rules for around 90 bucks...assuming you buy the limited edition at a discounted site.

I'm biased because I play Dark Angels. I'm splitting a pack with a Chaos player. He's getting the rulebook; I'm getting the Chaplain. My half is around $40. That's about the price of the Terminators by themselves.

I think it's a nice deal. It mgiht not be the ideal load-out for all models based on the rest of my army (would have preferred some Thunder Hammers), but I really like the sculpts. Plus - Plasma!

When you consider the new Allies rule, it seems that forces like this becomes even more interesting. These are the perfect size squads to add to an existing army.

This. Even if you don't want half of the set or you have nobody to trade with, ebay is a very valid option. As with AOBR, this is an inexpensive way to start or add to an army, heck, you may even get a good chunk of your money back through selling. And that mini rulebook is useful too.

If you see slaanesh, just look away.

It's overpriced if you consider what the models should actually be worth. Really, it shouldn't be anymore then $75-$85

It is however a great deal for GW standards. Especially when you consider that it's the price of 5 Vampire Counts Bloodknights.

1. Find a store that offers 20% off on GW products (not hard)
2. Find someone who wants the models you don't want from the set
3. You and friend buy each buy the set
4. One person takes all the DA stuff and one copy of templates etc. Other person takes all the Chaos and one copy of templates etc
5. You now possess a good starting point for either army, have a rule book, templates and some whippy sticks for about £53

This has been the norm for all the 2 player starter sets and it really is a win-win for all involved

Its a must-have. The DA faction is really great. As I already have some DA models (6 RW Bikers, 20 DA robed Vets), the included models are highly welcome.

anyone have an idea of just how DA the DA are? I could always use chaos for my oddly mismatched Chaos army left over from 3rd edition (homemade disc of tzeench!) I would rather add them to my Ultramarines, but I wonder just how much filthy DA iconography is splattered all over them. Then again, i guess I could paint them up green and ally them for the Divination alone (Did i mention DA are filthy emo kids?)

Here's the models on GW's site with 360 views. Do your homework now.

8000 points of XI Legion the Space Vagabonds, they can adapt their tactics to represent any and every Legion and Chapter as needed because they were created by the Emperor to be the ultimate tactical power. They have faked their disappearance in order to infiltrate every part of the conflicts in the galaxy.

8000 points of Tau/Craftworld Eldar/Necron because the Space Vagabonds can also emulate their wargear and tactics.

Victories: ALL
Losses: NONE (My armies have the psychic ability to conjure a cataclysmic storm whenever they are about to lose. This allows the Space Vagabonds to teleport away while releasing power waves that destroys the battlefield and so every battle is a victory)

Like I said in another thread about the exact same thing....

I'll pick one up but I'm torn over its use.

I could buy it for my nephews to learn the game... but then I'd have to let them put it all together without me basecoating and painting (which would leave me grinding my teeth while they played).

I could buy it for them for Christmas but open and paint it first so they can start playing right when they get it.

I could also buy the special edition one and:

Keep the Cultists for Necromunda (as they are clearly Necromunda gangs).

Sell the Hellbrute (I like it but have no use for it).

Paint the Chosen and Lord (they look incredible) and let my roommate use them as allies for his daemons.

Maybe keep the DA for myself but more than likely just sell them.

Hold onto the Chaplain for about 10 years and sell it on ebay for a hefty chunk of change.

Well, all the models in there are really great.

In particular, the DA faction could serve as ally detachment. Not sure about the CSM faction since I don't know the rules of the ''Dread'' and the Cultists.

Honestly, after a lot of thought, I am not getting it. Sure, the Chaplin is nice, as are all the sculpts in the box, but what kills me for this set is the molded shoulder pads. I don't play DA, I don't intend to play DA, so this box holds no value to me because I have no interest in playing either army. Maybe if the marines were generic, then I might get it, but I have an 1850 unpainted guard army (that I need to start on to finish for Adepticon), so my painting will be full for a while and I have over 3k of Blood Angels, so I don't really need extra marines. I might pick up the bikes and the cultists latter, but I have no reason to rush out and buy this set.

I only really wanted the pocket rule book from it so was torn over whether to get it or not. Went into one of my local GW stores today to ask some questions about the set, and from out the blue, my mum went and offered to get it for me. Solved my dilemma over whether or not to get it.

Its not too bad actually, and Im ended up ordering the advanced one anyways, that special mini looks fantastic! I am contemplating using them as an Allied force, or I could just paint them blue and call it a day, DA iconography or not, theres a lot of possibilities plus the models are extra hawt, and although I really dont need anymore terminators, you cant go wrong with more terminators!
