Right, went a bit mad and bought quite a bit this weekend, including two dark vengeance box sets

I have

2xCompany masters
2x interrogator chaplins
2xlibrarians
10 terminators ranged.
30 tac marines, including 2 plama guns, 2 plasma cannons, missile launcher and flamer
6 bikers
1 drop pod so far,
1 auto cannon with lascannon sponsons pred
and 4 rhinos, but Ive bought a fw whirlwind hyperion conversion kit, assault cannon turret, a lascannon turret (so two razorbacks) pred side sponsons (full pred using the lascannon turret metnioned before) I plan to stick magnets everywhere so I can use what I want depending on the list.

My next buys wiil be 2 dreads with dual autocannon arms (already bought the autocannon arms) a vindicator kit, either the parts to go with the above rhino's or just a plain vidicator kit. Also thinking of a tech marine or maybe the thunderfire cannon with tech marine but the price seems a bit much because I am not sure if i like the thunderfire cannon or not?, also need to buy a couple squads of scout snipers.

What else would add to the army?, I am missing CC troops yes but would I need them as this is turning out to be a gun line army really. I might add assault marines or CC terms at a later date but if i do they will probably be FW models with HH era armour. No land raider in there but there are two Preds. Opinions good n bad appericated

Are you dead set on playing with the SM codex?
Else I could suggest maybe splitting the models between 2 codices.

Storm Talons work better in pairs.
Preds work better in pairs.

I think the main thing I would do is get something really horrible for the drop pod. You want this thing to land and put a reasonable dent into the enemies plans.

I would go for all razorbacks, then go for more or less a gunline. It really seems that you are going this way.
Or all rhinos, which will lead to a more running straight towards the enemy list.

Well the stuff from the box set is DA's and the other stuff is normal marines, i was just going to use the vanilla codex so no not too fussed which codex I use or what other models I get, I am planning on getting another storm talon after seeing how this one performs I proxy'd one in my last game and it wasnt brilliant but like the model and concept so hopefully next time it wont come on to turn 4 and whiff a lot!.


I can do two preds with that list LC/LC or HB and AutoC/LC pairs. I can do 2 preds with three razor backs or 3 rhinos, I might get another two drop pods

Just a list I made up for a game on sunday vs tau with SM allies, played against them the other week using a borrowed army and just didnt have enough ap2 to take out his broadsides or termi's, now I should have though very light on troops and heavy on armour but I am hoping to give him too many AV targets and take out his broadsides quickly then concrentrate on the rest of his army.

I am not sure what warlord to take, chaplin captain of libby, I would like to put them in with the terms but havent got a terminator model of either of them yet.

One of the reasons there are only 15 tac's is I might not have time to put them all together before sunday seeing as I am collecting the box sets on friday night. As I tried a tac heavy bolter army my first game thought i would try this list this week and see what is effective then mix the two up

If you're dropping ton's of cash and sky's the limit I'd pick up a 10 man sternguard unit with a pod. Go over to chapterhouse studios and pick up 10 combi-wep conversion kits for $50 and pimp them out. The kit contains a bolter body base and magnetized top for each combi, and is really nicely done, though it is metal not resin. You can then configure the squads however you want depending on the game / preferences. Pick a few extra up for Sgts in the tac squads while your at it. Hell, go in for some of apothecaries / command units / Mk X units to make them stand out from the rest of your army while your at it.

Also, use the Hyperion as the Air Defense system, it has skyfire, intercept, and heat seeking missiles per the new AI, and you can get 3 with a controller for 150 pts and shoot at three flyers a turn.

However, I would suggest you hold off any more buying until you get an initial list up to guide what you're doing. I can say from experience that having everything and no direction can be a bit confusing, and too many options can sometimes be more trouble than its worth. Set up a couple of 1k-1.5k lists and try out different play lists to figure out what you enjoy playing before going any further. It sucks to invest in a bunch of models only to discover you don't like the play style they dictate (I'm looking at you Devestators!).

Shooty terminators are ok and dev. squads cost too many points.
