Hey all, I'm playing in an escalation league right now and today we were at 750 pts. I got tabled in the 5th round and despite having thought I'd lost I was awarded a minor win. I had secured more of the secondary objectives then my opponent and he had failed to claim any objectives so this is why I won according to the league manager. Both My opponent and I were quite baffled with the result. Was this the right decision?

Sounds like a house rule. By BRB you lost a crushing defeat.

p. 122 of the rulebook states that if your army is wiped out to a man, the opponent automatically wins.

I think the reasoning was wins were awarded based on mission objectives and secondary objectives. 8 points for controlling more primary and secondary objectives and 5 points for more primary but less secondary. He controlled no objectives not did he carry out any of the secondary objectives.

That is your local tournaments house-rule/scoring choice in effect; it is not generally what the rules state happen after you table somebody.

I guess they decided for that tournament to count win/loss ratios based purely on the number and quality of objectives claimed during the games rather than who actually won or lost each game?

If your league has some crazy house rules, why didn't your opponent just claim the objectives after he had tabled you?

Seems to be that if he didn't win for tabling you, he could have still moved to claim the objectives.

If you are jumping on the Dinobot meme bandwagon regarding the new Warhammer 40k Chaos models, grow the feth up!

He had no scoring units left.

Pg 122. If one player concedes the battle or his entire army is wiped out, the game ends and a crushing victory is awarded to his opponent.

Your TO can do whatever he wanted for his Tourney, but by rules it was a crushing defeat for you. I would definitely have the TO clarify the rules for this kind of thing before the next tourney though.

Still, in a league with fluff, it makes sense.

Lost the battle, but his effort towards the war was extremely valuable none the less.

Here's a question, how did you claim objectives if you had no models on the board?

I believe 'objective' in this context refers to completing certain objectives during the game as opposed to capturing physical objectives.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Secondary objectives were kill the warlord and first blood which I achieved. We were playing the scouring and at the end of the game he had achieved no secondary objectives and held no primary objectives.

If you were tabled he had to have Kill the warlord.

Not necessarily. Don't forget that "Tabled" doesn't mean everything dead any more, it means nothing on the table. If the Warlord was still in reserves the opponent could kill everything else and get the win without getting "Kill the Warlord."

A unit that is still in reserve come game's end awards victory points exactly as if it has been destroyed (pg.125).

I killed his warlord turn 2. He killed mine turn 5. He didn't get line breaker. I was hulled up in a building on his side of the table and he brought every available unit into his table side to kill my warlord.

If your playing orks you can kill your own warlord. Infact any army which has a warlord using a weapon with gets hot can refuse vp with a unlucky/lucky roll.

Slay the Warlord does not care how the Warlord was slain, only that, by the end of the game, he was.

You can not refuse the Victory Point. "If, at the end of the game, the enemy's Warlord has been slain, you score 1 Victory Point." Rulebook page 122.
