I was just wondering if anyone knew any instances of the Ultramarines and Tau getting along like bros and what book is it mentioned in? I ask because I am building a Tau auxiliary force to help my Ultras and need to know what colour to paint them.

Well I think there was one time where Tau and Ultras were fighting it out then bam! here come some Necrons. The Ultras and Tau fight for a bit against the Crons, then Calagar decides to call exterminatus (spelling?) and allows the Tau to leave before they nuke the place.

Their allegiance to the Ultras won't determine their colour scheme, their Sept world will. Unless you're after recreating a specific force mentioned in a specific source, you can paint them any way you want.

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

Yea Im after a specific fight mentioned in the fluff where the two forces ally up. Ill have to do some digging.

If you don't find the color from the source, I recommend you go for a similar scheme as the default T'au Tau, but instead of their brownish yellow, you use your Ultramarine's yellow or gold pain to make it both visually coherent and non fluff-butchering.

Waaagh!

You could always just paint them how you want and say they're from a Sept World of your own design.

If you are looking to make them seem as if they had previously allied you could paint an Ultra/Bonding-knife symbol on your Tau units.

I like deff-dread's idea of the bonding knife.
The world was previously imperial-owned, so going with an urban warfare scheme is likely a safe bet.

The Tau and Ultramarines also allied against the forces of Chaos on the planet Dolumar IV.

^That fluff brought to you by the game and the BL novel "Fire Warrior".^

The game wasn't bad for what it was - it was no Half-Life, that's for sure, but as an on-rails FPS, it had its moments.

The novel, however, was pretty dire.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

The novel fits into the realm of Cain novels. Awesome books if you can take the humor.

How does it fair as a source for shedding light on the Tau on the whole?
