I'm splitting Dark Vengeance with a buddy (he already has a good-sized Dark Angels army, and I'm interested in starting CSM). I'm curious, what work would I have to do in order to adequately convert the army from the Crimson Slaughter to the Black Legion? The paint job would be the major difference, obviously, but I'm wondering how much extra effort would go in to making it look a little more convincing. Obviously this might be a harder question to answer, since no one has their hands on the set yet, but any suggestions would be helpful.

As far as expanding the DV set further towards the Black Legion, what kind of elements would help convey the feel of their warband? More/less corrupted units?

I won't be too much help with the modelling.

For your second question, the Black Legion really uses anything and everything. Abaddon has united a lot of the warbands for his Black Crusades. There are Plague Marines, Noise Marines, Thousand Sons and Khorne Berzerkers in the Black Legion. Really for Black Legion just use what you like.

The models are snapfit, so regarding the poses.. they are static, and hard to remodel.
As for the color... go for it. In my opinion they look as much Black Legion as Crimson Slaughter. Heck, you could paint them Tzeentch imo, and they would look Tzeentch-ish.

Paint them to look like falllen maybe?

Really I would say that it isn't worth it.

Even after you cut off all the DA icons you would still be left with 10 normal marines who don't look a thing like CSM.

Better off just buying CSM imo.

In the last WD, they have some of the chosen painted in black legion scheme. It works very well.

Shouldn't be too hard. The Chosen models have a lot of the Eye of Horus features...
