Greetings all! I am in the middle of putting together my BA army and I came across my bag of Honor Guard. While assembling them I was looking in the BA codex to see what all can be done to them. Well it states that 1 of the troops is a Sanguinary Novitiate, and that he can't take anything fancy or cool and can only remain regular. So what CAN he do??? Does he count as 1 of the 3 Sanguinary Priests allowed in my army, or is he an exception? I have no damn clue what he is or what the fool can do haha. If anyone can shed a little light on this, I would be EXTRELEMY grateful! Thanks.

Perhaps it would help to read the Honor Guard rules...

The Novitiate has the same rules as the sanguinary priest, but does not count towards the 1-3 limit of one elite slot.
(Feel no pain/ Furious charge bubble)

Only difference. He is not an IC, so he can't leave the squad and he can't be singled out in close combat by regular opponents. I'm not sure if he is a character. If so he could be challenged by other characters and has the ability to "Look out sir".

Sorry but it's pretty clear. He's a member of the Honour Guard unit as per Pg 52. Stats and extra rules for him are on Pg 52.

Not sure how you might think he counts as a differently named model from a different unit choice from a different page?!?!

Also giving ANY unit within 6" Furious Charge and FnP is far from regular. This coupled with a few Sanguinary Priests spread across your army is one of the most gittish things a BA player can do.

His capabilities are described in the Honour Guard entry. Essentially, he's like a Sang Priest but not an IC and with slightly worse stats.

A novitiate is not a priest. Also, you can have up to 9 Priests (up to three in each elite slot)
