I was wondering whether I should have Astorath the Grim as a main HQ choice and have an army mainly built around death company (I was thinking 4 squads of 10 assault death company, a death company dreadnought, and two 10 man death company squads in drop pods) or an army of 10 tactical squads of 10, lead by two sanguinary priests and Mephiston. I already have a hard flank of tanks, so I was mainly worrying about the troops, which army sounds more legit?

The Death Company army sounds far better. Tacticals are at best a necessary evil in SM armies they have no place in a BA army that has the option of taking good troop choices (DC and Assault marines).

Death Company can't capture objectives can they? Only contest?

Tactical squads are reasonable for blood angels.
They are not so amazing but with FNP and atsknf they are hard to shift.
I would never field 10 but a smaller number can serve you well.

DC would be about tabling the opponent. This is actually really hard. The enemy has to keep alive by an objective to win, using any tactic necessary to slow you down.

The problem with death company is the lack of scoring models.

For 225 points, however, you can get a guard allied detachment that consists of an HQ w/ banner, and a platoon w/ 3 autocannons.

25 scoring bodies, to hold your objectives. While they may not b e able to put up much of a fight, if your death company can keep the enemy busy the entire game they can provide some minor covering fire with the autocannons while ensuring you can at least hold an objective or two.

Or just get a tactical squad, which would do the same thing, but won't be swept off the board as soon as a CC monster decides to look at them.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
