Just got my first airbrush I was just going to use my gw paint with some Tamiya thinner like a 1:1 mix
but I was wondering about Vallejo Model Air paints are they any really better quality for airbrushes other then the fact they are more cost effective which I dont really care about
I merely care about coverage and the look of colours, I will be painting larger models
10 Lemans, 3 chimeras couple hellhounds, like 8 drop pods
Thanks in advance

Hi K-ROD,
I purchased an airbrush a couple of months ago and had really nice results with both Vallejo Model Air and the Vallejo Game Colour. I used the Vallejo thinner (though i imagine the Tamiya is just as good) mixed in a plastic shot glass before pouring into my airbrush. They are both REALLY nice when thinned to the right consistency. I don't think either is better and I have yet to use GW paints through the airbrush but the general consensus is that with careful and controlled thinning you can use any model paint to great effect.
- practice on pieces you don't care about (or even sprue)
Then have a crack at your serious projects.
Enjoy!

I been using a combination of different paints with my airbursh, I really love the Model Air line, but it just doesn't have all the colors I need. I would recommend getting the metallic colors from the Model Air line at the very least as they are pretty amazing as both a brush-on paint as well as in the airbrush. I haven't had to think my Model Air paints at all to use in the airbrush, but to be fair I had two bottles of it that were just bad (one was gold and the shade was just awful, I replaced the pot and it was just fine, the other one was a red paint, it seems the pigment totally separated and stirring didn't help)
As far as using GW/Reaper/Game Color lines, the Vallejo thinner was great, but you can get very similar results with water and some flow improver.

It seems that the real benefit is that they're pre-thinned specifically for airbrushing, which saves time, effort, and potential headaches due to improper mixing. Since thinning "stretches" a pot of paint longer, I'm not so sure that they're cheaper, per chosen unit of coverage, either, being pre-thinned. They apparently have a nice, fine grain to the pigment as well, but that's not a feature exclusive to airbrush paints, just quality paints. I've seen plenty of good reviews on Dakka and elsewhere around the net, even for using them with a regular brush. At the very least, it's likely worth picking up a handful of colors to test out (I'd suggest including a metallic color, as they're apparently rather good and the grain of the usual suspects' offerings tends to run on the large side, compared to their normal colors, making spraying somewhat problematic). Wish I could give you some more specific, firsthand impressions, but I haven't gotten my hands on any, yet. Or taken the time to sort out my airbrush troubles. Or paint much at all, really, at least recently... I've said what seems to be the general consensus, though, and I doubt you'll hear much different.

I have most of the line as I got a screaming deal on the suitcase set. The metallics in the line are hands down some of the best I have painted with, with either a brush or airbrush. The other colors are great too. When i use my airbrush, I probably use the Model Air line about 70% or more of the time.
Do not forget to look at Vallejo's line of various colors of Surface Primers that you can shoot through an airbrush right out of the bottle. They are spectacular. Just know that their grey primer is a very light grey and if you want a darker grey primer, mix the grey or white primers with the black. Works exceptionally well.

Model Air Metallics are a freaking dream to use with a brush! And of course they are great for airbrushing as well!

You should still give Tamiya paints a try, after all they have been around and used by tons of painters for decades.
Plus they are cheaper xD
