I like Flames of war,But some of the rules are starting to bug me. I am thinking of trying a new ruleset. What is the recoommendation. I am thinking KGN or Force on force.
Which one does people believe that play more realistically but are still fluid and fast paced.
I have even kicked aruond the idea of Bolt action but i have alot of flames of war models and do not want to reinvest.

There's Blitzkrieg Commander II (which I reeealy want to try, since I have the pdf of the rules, and I'd just try it at company level... but I finally got a bunch of 6mm Modern minis, and damned if I don't want to go to 6mm WWII now as well!), Combat Action Command, Fireball Forward, I Ain't Been Shot Mum III, Bolt Action (which is perfectly usable in 15mm), and Battlefront WWII, off the top of my head.

Well as Im involved with the two you mentioned, perhaps I can help to a degree.

It depends on what level of game you want (do you want platoon, Company, Battalion or brigade level rules?), and if you want to be able to use your FOW stuff without re-basing.

If you want to use your FOW stuff, then got for Battlegroup Kursk (as KGN aint printed anymore). Battlegroup Normandy is being written as we speak. They are my number one choice for WW2 rules.

Force-on-Force doesnt have any WW2 rules in the book and is aimed at single based figures really... Not sure it would work with FOW basing... But it might. The old mods for using it for WW2 are available from the AAG website, though for me (and I worked for AAG on the rules and supplements) the rules are superb for modern warfare but dont feel right for WW2. They are hoping to do a WW2 set in the future though.

BKC2 is a great game, based heavily upon Warmaster. I have played that for many years. IABSM too is also raved about though I have never managed to get a game in. Also if you have access to someone to referee then Fireball Forward might be worth a look. All of them will work with FOW basing.

Finally if you want something a little more traditional then Command Decision will also work and for fast play there is Rapid Fire 2.

I have heard that I ain't been shot mum is a good rule set and is much different than flames of war. Their system for fog of war and leadership are particularly interesting and unique. There are some battle reports from fat walley's site if you want to learn more.

I Ain't Been Shot Mum is really quite good.

Bolt Action works fine with 15mm on FOW bases.

Blitzkrieg Commander is also excellent.

No shortage of choices-- what about opponents? I tend to be the driving force in my local gaming group and can find people to play what I want.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Bolt Action with your existing FOW collection. No need to rebase:

IABSM is good though. Same basing as FOW works fine as well.

What exactly do you want to play? Squad skirmish, company level or higher?

My personal favorite for Squad/platoon skirmish is NUTS! though it’s mechanics arnt for everyone and you will need individually based miniatures. This wasn’t a factor for me as I had quite a few spare 15mm figures after creating my armies for FoW/BCKII so I just based them up individually.

For higher levels I love BCKII. Very easy and they feel right, and best of all no sodding supplements.

"And if we've learnt anything over the past 1000 mile retreat it's that Russian agriculture is in dire need of mechanisation!"
