So in 5th ed the loadout was pretty striaght forward; Grot Riggers, Armour Plates, Red Paint Job, Deff-Rolla + 2 big shootas all dedicated to keep the BW rolling towards your opponent as fast as possible to smash up tanks with the deff-rolla so your boys can hop out and assault the contents. I was wondering if these upgrades were still worth it or if a different BW loadout would be better (particularly as glances no longer roll on the damage chart). Any thoughts?

Depends what you're putting in them and what your points cap is.

For a Nobz platform I take Deffrolla and Big Shoota and that's it, only 115 for an AV14 beast.

After that I would add: RPG, Grot Riggers, more big shootaz in that order.

Same would go for Slugga Boyz

For a Shoota Boys platform it's the same but with more big shootaz.

Armor plates aren't really worth it with the changes to the vehicle rules (better table and HP glances).

Red Paint is still worthwhile, unless you're running the BW as a pillbox in your back line (i.e. not caring about mobility much).

Mine's pretty much exactly as it was in 5th, which is identical to what the OP listed - though I've not always had RPJ on them, in 5th nor 6th.

Only change I've made to them, is now actually putting lootas inside, and having mekboyz in my loota / burna units to restore hullpoints to the wagon.

I've gone to a bigger load out in 6th.
Armor plates, rpj, 2x big shootas, rigger, boarding plank, rolla, and kannon

With the new snap rules, I like the shootyness a little better.

Your mileage may vary...

I think the standard assualt battlewagon loadout is about the same; RPJ, boarding planks and riggers all have their place.
I'd say the deff-rolla get better now that we can move 18" 1st turn to get us closer for a ram 2nd turn, plus skimmers
can't do that annoying "Aha! I dodge you on a 3+ negating all damage and stopping you in your tracks for some reason!"
They get a 5+ save if they moved but that probably won't save a raider when I hit it with 6 str10 hits!

I think what has changed is the variety of loadouts, you don't have to just have a battlewagon for taking boyz to the fight, you
can do good dakka loudouts too! Huzzah! Now that you can fire ordnance weapons and still fire all other weapons on vehicles
you could even max out all your guns and take a killkannon as well to make a soopa dakka wagon...still not a great choice
but at least it's possible.
