Slowly I've been stripping paint and rebuilding my old SM chapter the PeaceKeepers. I've bought fresh models as well while i strip and plan my old models. The idea is to get back into playing at my local shops and finishing up a game table at home. I've made a list of what i need to get done, i have alot on the plate and this will most likely be a slow blog. Till i readily get a decent camera i will be using my cellphone. It isn't bad for the mid to long range photo's but the close up detail of an individual mini.

My primary paint scheme is Purple with yellow/gold accents with their chapter symbol a Gray/silver kite shield with 2 horizontal red lines. I'm also planning on making a few squads of Gray Knights as an ally detatchment. With that thought I've decided to change up my vehicle paint scheme of mostly all liche purple ( I'm still using old paint ) and doing it more of a mat gray in the style of Gray Knights. But instead of red accent on the GK vehicle style, I'm planning on doing a Purple stripe / accent to tie in my existing SM scheme. My thought is to allow interchange between fielding GK and my SM while being cheap and using same vehicles. This idea i believe I'll extend to the GY infantry as well to help show the ally connection.

I'm currently nearly finished with my Red Dune project http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/366267.page , as well as one of the Chapter's Captains.

After the Captain I'm going to finish up my many tactical marines ( aprox 30 ) and a 5 man Sternguard squad.

Couple of basic scouts to finish painting.

Magnetize two 5 man squads of Assault troops for normal or jump pack options.

Finish painting existing 10 man squad of termies.

Magnetize a 5 man squad of assault termies, for lightning claw or thunder hammer/storm shield swap options. (not sure if this is work needed to be done or just pick a ratio of either 3 LC/2 TH or visa versa.

Magnetize some GK for Purifiers or Interceptor squad switch up, another backpack / teleport pack conversion.

Finish building and painting a Purgation squad.

Repaint my Rhino. Hopefully buy 1 or 2 more as dedicated transports.

Repaint and repair my old LandRaider, was injured in a move years ago and while stripping paint am pondering on how to repair the side gun turrets. Haven't decided if I'm going to scrap it make it into terrain and buy a new one or try and repair it.

Paint and build a in box LandRaider Crusader.

Will post pics of the units I've already finished up soon.

Again i return after a long hiatus, with school, work and family setting down I've been able to get back into the game this past year or so. I've decided to continue this thread instead of starting a new one since it will be a continuation of the same project vs starting a new on. Did some competitive leagues and some narrative events, I have really enjoyed the fluffy scene over the competitive. So continuing here are some of my SM chapter builds based off how i want to my army to look + continued custom models from narrative events.

It has been so long since that last time I've posted that Chapter Tactics are a thing now. With my style of play, mostly shooty and love of devastator squads, I've chosen to run as an Imperial Fist successor chapter.

I made another Captain *no name yet*, this one was designed after a few Ork campaign narrative games, i wanted to make a character that almost identified with the Ork straight forward approach to things. Double power fists with bombs, the idea of him breaching holds and taking out tanks on the front line. I wanted that demolitionist look of various bombs and explosives strapped to him with pockets and tools. Still taking the time to figure out the shoulders i want to place on him, one idea is to get a hold of an Ork metal jaw bit and see if i can get it to fit on a shoulder pad as a war trophy. I used a grayknight terminator head to help give him that "knightly beefy armored" look.

During a short narrative involving defending a sector from invading Tyranid tendril, i had a Dreadnought shine above the rest of the units used to defend the sector. In the narrative he was equipped with twin-linked heavy flammer and power fist with built in heavy flammer, this allowed him to carve giant swatches from the invading swarm, in one match killing nearly 3/4 of the force. With his great service i thought what would make a Tyranid veteran stand out above other Dreads? I thought of how great hunters look, and i decided to make a pelt hood for him. The Tyranid members of the narrative liked this idea and helped provide me with extra bits for the project, providing me with pieces of various Nids.

Earning the name Brother Zamok, Defender of Vitria. I plan to do a shin or arm guard with a rook piece with chapter crest on it, at the base say Vitria, with a back drop of flame as a personal heraldry for him.

I bought a Furioso Dread, I don't play Blood Angels but it was one of the only kits that had double power fists. I liked the idea of double power fist and double built in heavy flammers to show he goes knee deep into Nids and flame, giving the image that he pulled that carnifix carapace right off its back. The Dread was already magnetized, bought it used, and used the top mag used for attachments as the anchoring point for the carapace, adding a magnet to the chin of the carnifex head. Thought was to allow me to have a the option to have a normal Dread fielded or my chapters named Dread. Chopping off the arms of the claws at the "Wrist" to allow it to be positioned on the dread's roof, using green-stuff i molded the angles i wanted to give it a rested organic feel.

I feel i did a good job at lining up the carapace and claws to not block the dread mechanics, allowing the exhaust pipes to be seen peeking out between the claws. Once i do my chapters colors of purple and gray, i'm hoping the Blood Angel iconography will fade out naturally, i don't feel confident enough to carve out or green stuff over with out screwing it up.

About to throw some paint on Brother Zamok, with a heavy gray/purple armor theme I'm a tad stuck on how i want to do the carnifix carapace. I'm going to lay down my black and brown base coats while i think of the direction i want to take in planning the armor plate coloring and the where i want to place scripture.

I'm open to suggestions on the carapace, but my initial plan is to work toward a more of a bare bone look with brown wash, allowing me to add battle scripture to be written on it. The idea is to have the carapace being not just a large war trophy but also a wearable documentation of feats and campaigns.

If you're into the carapace (i.e. claws and skull) being a wearable document, I suggest making it look old and worn. Have the claws be an old shade of ivory (Sepia and Agrax washes will help here). Then inscribe on them a litany of victories. Either a list of campaign names or just vague scribbles could work.

For the parts that are preserved flesh, I'm a bit less sure, but gloss varnishes would probably help give a lacquered look.

goblinpaladin here are a few examples of my scripture work I'm know for in my local group. And thank you for the tips for the more fleshy parts.

Progress i've made so far with the base layers, black with dry brushed silver to give it that machined look, brown with a dry brush of gold for ornament. Also the go at the carapace, doing a pale flesh base with a home brew brown wash and then with that pale flesh i did a dry brush over it to help blend. Next plan is to do a pale flesh with bone white over for the claw blades. Still trying to think of how i want to exactly execute the "Fleshy" bits.

Well I'm off to bed, hopefully I'll have some time in the next day or so to continue.

carapace progress, i went to present the fleshy bits as leathered or tanned, and keeping the exposed skull and claws being like a bleached bone. I'm happy with all of it except for the fleshy bits... i feel stuck on what to do to improve it or if i should not meddle out of fear of making it worse...

Got up early this morning to throw some purple and add a few minor details to him such as adding the foundation coloration for the parchment and skulls on the chest. At first i was afraid that the Blood Angels/Death Company motif would still stand out, now after some of my chapters color has been laid down I don't feel it showing up as much.

Here i plan to have the left chest plate to match the left arm being purple, and have the center, right chest plate and arm being grey. Left mid arm plate i painted the same i do the parchments, will lay down a dry brushing of white and apply a brown wash to really give it that warn parchment look. I like to use that combination to lay down my script work, i feel it gives a solid foundation for my penmanship and i don't have to compete with how dark the paint is for it to show up well.

And here is how he looks so far... coming together. I hope to get Brother Zamok mostly finished by tonight.

Thoughts on claws... i'm thinking to do a green-lime green power blade look like i've done with others in my chapter.

evening update, been going back and forth working on him in bits while doing house stuff. At this point all that is left is the right arm, highlights and character detail. My Celestra Grey is starting to get all clumpy and being a pain to get it to apply smoothly, may just run out and grab a new pot.

Paint is finished~! I like how he's turned out for the most part. I should base him, i'm terrible at doing that, might ask a friend who's good at it. Finishing touches are me sitting down very still like and laying down script work on his plates and carapace pieces, and taking the time to add even a lighter tone of green to the tips of the claws to help them pop even more. I even took the time to paint a dull grey/white eye on the other side of the skull, trying to give it that corpse look.

A picture of Brother Zamok with my other dreadnought I've finished, shown as a comparison to the vehicle paint scheme I'm going with.

Next project is to either work on my Chapter Master *who's a Tyranid veteran* or finish up a Devastator Squad I've half finished.

Next projects i have my eyes set on... Chapter Master or 5man Dev Squad?

Another Tyranid war vet with nid war trophies, plan is to replace the the power glaive blade with the born sword. From the same Tyranid narrative, half way through the campaign, my chapter master plugged a "Hole" in the wall defenses by assaulting a carnifex and then holding off for 4 turns, killing 2 carnifex a hive tyrant and tyranid prime. Granted in that event he was assigned to a squad of purifiers that did assist with the wounds, they didn't survive. He's your standard "Smash F***er" chapter master, i go with the relic blade vs thunder hammer due to i don't like giving up my initiative, Shield Eternal and Artificer Armor. The wrist mounted stormbolter is well... Imperial Fist Successor Chapter... so that seems like a given, as well as i like the concept of having hands free... i mean if the bloods get wrist mounted weapons why can't more chapters? The core model is from a dark angels kit, i like the robed knight look.

Other project is a 5man dev squad, with dynamic posed missile launchers. Too often i see dev teams just placed in static aiming formations, so i wanted to change it up. I maybe biased but my favorite one is the one that has pulled his side arm to aim. My models are old enough to not have an actual Signum, so I'm thinking having him have an Auspex hanging off his armor and having an extra bolter scope placed on top section of power pack lined up with head gaze to represent a Signum.

Got busy with home and work responsibilities, I've been slowly adding little by little to my dev missile squad. I got my old painting spot back, but the new bulbs we bought for the rooms make my models look horrible, or maybe i should just take pictures during the day... or could invest in some real decent lighting.

Nearly finished at this point, just need to finish two heads and two packs. I have some minor details planned to add, such as pouches, extra ammo/missiles and a slightly custom Signum for the Sgt. that will be a bolter scope over looking his shoulder from his pack. Only thing I'm stuck on atm is what to have the Sgt's right arm be doing.

The one drawing his side arm is my favorite, i added an ammo belt with grenade to add more flavor to him.

Finished up the Chapter Master That I've had in my planned box for years.

I used a local Warhammer store HQ painting competition as motivation to start back to working on my chapter. As i was building him i started to find problems in the build as i went that i didn't think about. One of the first was the fact i forgot to set aside and plan his shoulder pads, so there was a slight panic on getting him pads. Luckily i still had some Sternguard sprew left over, and that seemed to fill the need fine. Another thing, once i got his "Glaive" built *which i was super nervous about since i had 1 attempt at it* was it turned out MUCH longer then i expected. Looks okay, but turned out almost silly large. The shield / stormbolter combo seemed good on paper and in bits, but once assembled comes off as unbalanced and un-weidly. The shield i also comes off as "Dinky" compared to the image of a tough front line in-moveable object. In the future i think i'd like to move his arm pose slightly, moving the glaive up more in a rally/charge feel vs the thrust motion, his legs doesn't convey that movement. And i would also like to ditch the stormbolter arm for a regular one and a larger shield.

Finished Shots. I also did something different that i should get in the habit of, as it does really make the piece look better, is basing. I am happy with how that turned out. Used a texture paint, dry brushed a light brown and soft gray, then added Nurgles Rot texture in a few patches to add some contrast to the lower textured patches on the base.
