Hi,

with my copies of Dark Vengeance looming on the horizon, It got me all fired up and ready to convert, already have a few ideas for the librarians (WHY YOU NO HAVE HELMETS?!) and chaplains (one has to remain stock... it is pretty damn sweet as is) and the one thing I'm most excited about is making Belial, always wanted to try out a Deathwing army, and now I have the proper motivation.

I have most of the bits for it already, just need to get myself some greenstuff.

here is a rough sketch i made to get the basic idea down for the armor design (not sure on the pose yet, that i normally work out when assembling), not sure yet about the color scheme, and the more i look at it, the more I'm leaning towards dropping the hood.. Anyway, enough rambling, here is the pic, input appreciated.
thanks.

*EDIT* added the sword and a little extra ornamentation on the armor, mostly around the plain shoulder pads (added a raised ridge, some purity seals and some studs and ropes here and there) now I'm happy with it, and am looking forward to starting work on it.

also added cool shading to the robes and warm shading to armor, thanks SRM.

*EDIT 2* SHIELD!

I hate, hate, hate the helmet. Give him a hooded, unhelmeted head please!

heh, not going to happen! I LOVE the terminator helmets to begin with, and having bare head marines is actually a huge pet peeve of mine. the helmet stays, the hood... probably not.

I like that hooded Terminator head. It looks cool with or without the hood! I like that you were able to incorporate a number of the Dark Angels design themes there; it looks like it could be an actual GW model from that sketch! You'll have to do something to distinguish the white of the robe from the bone color of the armor; I'm sure you can do that by shading with cool tones on the robe and warm tones on the Terminator armor though.

Helmet all the way. Why would you ever not wear a helmet with your walking tank armor.

Especially with terminator armor... without the helmet, you have a giant hole/target right about center mass that is just waiting for some bullets to ricochet all over the place and into your face

I thought Lore-wise, Belial was SB and sword... never played DA before, so, I don't know if he can swap gear. don't have the codex atm.

if he can take a shield though... this opens up whole new opportunities for over-the-top detailing I LOVE SHIELDS!

Are we really talking about the realism behind a transhuman super-warrior and why he would wear a helmet? If you lose the hood, it would look better.

I think in a codex marine chapter or the DA then everyone wearing helmets is fine. Space marines in general all look the same bar the guys with more showy armour.
Spacewolves on the other hand are more fast and loose with their helmets.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

I put helmets on because I think they look badass, my reasoning for it come way after that... First and foremost, they look cooler to me with helmets.

And added shield.

Looks great, and I too say keep the helm. As for the hood, can go either way really. I think the hood just helps with the "Hey, Im a Dark Angel" message. The drawing is great too, but the only criticism I may have (in so far as the drawing itself goes), is that the legs are too 'straight'. As in, I dont feel the same sense of weight behind the terminator dreadnought armour as I do from looking at other depictions of terminators. That is, legs spread, knees bent, kind of waddling to unleash death to faster foes.

That being said, I understand its just a sketch for your conversion idea, and it still looks great. I hope to see the conversion made real.

thanks!

Heh, the good ol' "I just pooped myself" pose (made infinitely worse on GK terminators)

I just placed an order for tubes of greenstuff, so, as soon as those come in, I'll be able to start posting some WIP pics... I AM PSYCHED!

Can't wait to see it, that initial sketch was very promising.

Now I need to ask... Why does this one marine lack crucial and badass looking protective headgear?!
