Can someone who had the imperial guard codex help me ? I keep seeing that Veterans squads replace the normal infantry squad , i have read through the codex twice and i can't see where it tells me that . Also regarding the catachan codex does the newer Imperial guard codex replace its rules or is that codex still valid ?

You've either got an out of date codex, or cannot read, because it states pretty clearly in the back under the troops section that a veteran squad is a seperate troop choice. It does not however, replace an infantry squad in a platoon. You can only buy 6 veteran squads max. For example, you could buy 2 platoons and 4 vet squads as your 6 troop choices, but you cannot buy a platoon and replace the infantry squads in it for vet ones. Does this make sense?

As for the catachan codex, yes, sadly that codex is out of date. However, if you adapted it a bit to 6th and discussed it with a friend, I'm sure you could play a friendly game or two with it, just realize that it is in no way shape or form a legal army list anymore. Maybe get somebody with a "Lost and the damned" codex list to play you.

Veterans don't replace infantry squads.

Veteran squads replace ENTIRE infantry PLATOONS.

You can have 2 vet squads as your two troop slots instead of the 14 gazillion meatbags in a platoon (x2).

Wow i do see what you mean , i never really thought into it. Please correct me if i am wrong but are you saying when i buy a platoon the 2 - 5 infantry squad is mandatory and then i can take a veteran squad along with them ? Sorry if these are stupid questions , i'm honestly confused .

No. Veterans have nothing to do with platoons. A troops choice can be an entire infantry platoon, or a single veteran squad. (or conscripts or penal legion).
