Hey guys

I was thinking about starting up a small blood Angels force, but I don't really know too much about them

I really like the concept, but I was wondering what made them unique to other chapters... I was trying to get an army which stood out abit more. I know that they are combat orientated, which is a hinderance in 6th ed but I'm not bothered about competitive play.

And I did want to go with a terminator/ heavy shooting army, but I heard the sanguinary guard have good as good of a save.

I was also interested in making an imperial fists army, but does the special character, 'Lysander' really make a difference to play style?

A terminator/heavy shooting force would be grey knights.
I play them myself and terminators are a troop choice and psycannon spam is a godsend. If you are really looking for something like that BA is not the way to go.

Go space wolf logan wing, lots of terminators with a wide range of options, back them up with cheap longfang units and you can take on anything.

To actually answer the OP s original question....

BA wouldn't make an ideal fit for the type of army you want to build. The emphasis is on speed and assault with BA using their fast tanks and deepstriking units to close with the enemy and hit them in the face as soon as possible. They do not lend themselves well to a shooting army without robbing them of the units that give them their character, but it is doable as they share many units with Codex Marines.

Lysander will make a small difference to how a C:SM plays, but nothing too fundamental. In actual fact it could be argued its detrimental as Combat Tactics allows you to get out of combat and frees you to shoot, whereas Stubborn actually makes it more likely you'll get bogged down.

My advice would be to hang fire for the Dark Angel codex expected early next year, as they are supposedly the archetype for the shooty and Terminator heavy marine list.

But remember the beauty of marines is that as long as you're mindful of wysiwyg you can use the same models for different codexes.
