Pyro Pilot of a Triach Stalker

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Played a game just the other day against my friend, who just started a Templar force, having never played against them before, I opted to ask him to play a game!

EDIT: This is ACTUALLY 750 points, i mixed this battle and another up!

The battle raged on in the valley below, Overlord Xerxius, High Lord of the Bedouin dynasty, for all his cunning, could not break the will of the gene-bred humans, known as the “Black Templars”. Their ferocity in battle, hit and run raids and strength in combat had confounded his every maneuver, resulting in this, a stalemate, with neither side gaining ground. He watched as in the distance as a large artillery piece fired, landing a direct hit on monolith primus, the warhead failing to damage the hull of the mighty vehicle, however the pilot moved the beast back into what constituted cover rather than advance.

He was awoken from his reverie by the sound of metallic feet crushing the glass that now covered the valley, rather than the once soft sand, his favored Cryptek, Teletrix, gave a respectful bow, as was custom.
“Speak quickly”
The Cryptek wasted no time relaying his report.
“My lord, a large detachment of the enemy have broken away from the main force, and have begun an encircling movement, should this happen, they could break out battle line between the two forces given a sufficient push, likelihood 87.153% chance.”

The Xerxius’ mind raced for a moment, debating a stratagem to counter the daring move.
“Send a detachment, under the command of Potentus.”
The cryptek bowed, however if he had been capable of shuddering, he would have. Having fallen to the destroyer virus, Potenus was a barely restrained dog on a leash, capable of only destruction, and was rarely called upon to action. He however relayed the order, and a Necron contingent moved out immediately consisting of.

Destroyer Lord Potentus (WS/ MSS/ SW) (FNP within 3 inches of objectives)
x6 Wraiths x3 Whips
x5 Warriors
x5 Warriors
x2 Annihilation Barges

Meanwhile, on approach, were the brave men of strike force Omega, hand-picked by Marshall Danzig to lead the flanking maneuver, prayers to the emperor were uttered over the roar a mighty land-raider’s engines as it tore through the night, spearheaded the by the mighty Emperor’s Champion. His armor gleamed in the glo-lamp light as they drove on. They had to be in position by day break, or they’d surely be spotted.
“Sir” spoke the pilot
“Yes, what is it? You interrupt prayer” growled the Captain leading the team.
“I have long range signatures….they’re gone. Had, long range signatures on auspex.”
“Keep my appraised, I will have no setbacks or delays brother.”
“Understood sir, the Emperor guides my treads”

The Black Templars force consisted of roughly the following
1 Captain w/ artificer armor, power weapon (Furious Charge in deployment zone)
1 Emperor’s Champion
x10 Intiates w/ frag grenades, plasma gun
x10 Initiates w/ frag grenades, plasma gun
x1 Land Raider

Game Objectives (The Scouring) (4) Were placed one in a crater in his deployment zone, one in a building in mine, one in the middle of the open middle field, and one in a building mid field, providing cover for both sides, and an ideal staging point for the Templars, or a defensive position for the Necrons.
We roll for initiative, and the Necrons go first, placing both annihilation barges on the left flank, at the edge of the open field. Both squads of warriors hunker down in the building next to the objective, waiting for the battle to come, and to claim the middle objective.
The destroyer lord and wraiths park themselves in the middle between the warriors and the barges, out of Line of Sight (warlord trait, FNP within 3 inches of an objective (Sweet, a scoring unit with FNP on objectives, coooool)

The Templars set up with initiates in the crater taking cover on an objective, while the Champion, Captain and the rest of the initiates ride in the land raider.
Templars roll to seize and fail

“SIR SOLID CONTACTS ON AUSPEX”
“The Emperor Protects pilot, FORWARD, Crush them beneath our mighty treads! FOR THE EMPEROR AND THE IMPERIUM OF MAN!”
Turn 1 Necrons

“Advance…destroy them…destroy them all” Grated Potentus, sweeping the scythe menacingly signaling the advance.
The annihilation barges skim forward six inches, drawing beads on the initiates not inside a land raider.
Warriors hold position
D-lord and Wraiths advance to the center building, out of LOS of the enemy

Shooting
The very skies themselves light up as both barges open fire on the Templars, I roll, and with 8 shots, score 15 hits…the gauss cannons wiff, as the dust settles, 5 templars lay fried, the crater blackened into glass.
Warriors are out of range
“THERE IS NO GLORY IN POINTLESS DEFEAT! FALL BACK!”
The initiates test on morale, and decide to fight another day, as they drag their incapacitated brothers from the crater, and retreat off the board.( He rolled a 9 for the retreat, 8 or less kept them on)

(first blood, Necrons)
Assault
N/A

Templars Turn 1
The land raider moves flat out forward, trying to get his deathstar into combat
“Brothers, report!....Damn them! Cowards!” Cries the Champion, clearly anxious to bring death to the enemy.
Shooting
The land raider opens fire on the warriors with its assault cannon, shells peppering the walls and battlements, blowing massive hunks from the masonry, shredding one of their number, the rest duck below the battlements, and avoid the worst of the fire.

Assault
Definitely out of range, given there is a building between them and my closest unit

Necrons turn two
“To the skies…give them the deaths they so eagerly seek.” The bravado was largely wasted on the emotionless and robotic wraith wing, but, they acknowledged the command, phasing out of reality and straight through the building, Potentius himself lunges over the building, appearing next to the land raider, and the wraiths.
Annihilation Barges shuffle to try and get shots in on the land raider, maybe the gauss cannons can glance a hull point.
Shooting
Gauss cannons wiff, warriors manage to strip a point away, as armor dis-assembles, falling to ash on the sand.

Assault
Wraiths swoop in, attacking vital components of the venerable war machine, as the lord takes a more direct approach, going for the engine. The land raider dies in a massive 6 inch fiery blast, wounding two wraiths (forgot they have FNP on the objective thanks to the destroyer lord) and killing two initiates.

Templars Turn 2
The Marines emerge from the fiery and smoky wreckage, finding enemies abundant around them, and position themselves for a charge.
Shooting
The marines fire bolt pistols and plasma at the wraiths, killing one
Assault
“FOR THE EMPEROR! LEAVE NONE ALIVE!”
The Templars charge the wraiths, and wounding another 3, however they manage to frustrate the marines with whip coils, killing 3 in return, wounding the captain once.
The Champion bellows a challenge to Potentus “Come here foul xenos, taste of my blade and DIE!”
“So…eager…I will be the harbinger of your all too timely demise…fool” The two clash in a flurry of blades, neither managing to wound the other, MSS fails to affect the champion.

Necrons Turn 3
The annihilation barges find an optimal firing arc should the melee go south.
Warriors remain vigilant on the walls, and wait for the dust to settle.

Shooting
N/a

Assault
The challenge continues, as the chamption rolls under a vicious swing of Potentius’ scythe, which hits sand, and stabs upwards, wounding the xenos leader.
Meanwhile, the wraiths and marines continue to clash, the rending claws of the wraiths claiming 2 more marines, all the wraiths now have a wound on them due to placement of the models in BtB.

Templars Turn 3
The two champions fight on, mindshackle scarabs rooting the champion in place for a brutal strike from Potentius, wounding the champion, however the champion does not wound himself.
The wraiths finish off the rest of the marines, leaving the champion alone on the battlefield. Before the captain falls, he kills two of the wraiths. Leaving me with 3

Necrons (Kill the warlord)

Necrons Turn 4

“Damn you! I’ll avenge them! I’ll avenge them all! The Emperor is with me!”
“Not yet, you’re not dead…fool…”
With a snarl, the champion lunges at the Destroyer lord, striking him with wild abandon, causing one unsaved wound (after FNP, since we FINALLY remembered)
The all-out assault however, left the marine vulnerable, Potentius swinging a hard counterblow, disarms his opponent, and with brutal efficiency, cuts him down, he dies muttering a prayer, his blood coloring the sand beneath him.

Major Victory Necrons (5-0)
Warlord /First Blood/ x3 Objectives
Well, the dice gods favored me heavily this time, that opening salvo was devastating…I really didn’t have the tools to deal with that land raider, getting really lucky with rends and my placement of troops. Afterwards my friend and I grabbed some lunch, and played a kill team game, which was also a lot of fun, all in all a pretty fun afternoon.
