As I already have a company master modelled for my marines, would people have any issue with using the new one from DV as the chapter master? The only reason I ask is because he is supposed to comprise of two minatures, one of which can have no effect on the table. He moves out of the way for close combat, may not be targeted, and doesn't count for transport capacity.

What say you all?

Put a banner on his back and I think you would be good to go for casual games.

Just model something on his base or next to it for the lion helm

I was going to use the new company master model from Dark Vengeance... the one with the wingy helm...

I get what you are saying. By putting a banner on that models backpack you get him as close as you can to make him a "count's as" model

Yes.

The effect of the Lion Helm is generated from the Watcher, not Azrael himself.

But Azrael himself is listed as having the helmet as part of his wargear. What would a 20mm offset of the invulnerable bubble do to the game? Cats and dogs living together?

the watcher is the best part of the Azrael model.

Since Azrael dosnt provide a "bubble" at all I would say that it would do very little Azrael provides a 4++ for any unit he joins. The Watcher is for all intents and purposes ignored when it comes to gameplay.

I would say go for it, just say it is Azrael wearing his helmet. If Azrael is wearing the helmet he doesn't really need the watcher does he. I have seen a few people model the actual model with the helmet on and ditch the watcher and nobody had a problem. Just make sure at the begining of the game everyone knows what he is. If somebody really has a propblem with it make a second model carrying his personal banner or combi weapon. A marine or scout would look cool doing that. I say do it and game on.

I'm in the process of making the DV Master ( Balthazar) into Azreal. A number of reasons for this but the main one being is I think Azreal model is very outdated and looks quite scrawny against the new models.
He already has the sword and combi plasma. If you look at Azreals rules he has the lion helm as his wargear, there is no where that states a watcher must be present and as far as games go they just get in the way any way.
My conversion is a simple one, I have simply swapped the helmeted head for a bare head and used one of the watchers from the Deathwing Knights box with the winged helm attached instead of the sword.
This is based on a 40mm base to fit both models on one base.
and before you get on your soapboxes about bases this is perfectly legal in 6th ed.

I use him as Azrael all the time. The Watcher is the similar Watcher from the Deathwing Knights kit. He's armed appropriately and looks the part. I don't think anyone will have problems with that.

Just us the Watcher from the Deathwing Box...simple fix

Same wargear so I don't see any harm in using him as a counts as model at all. I was thinking of doing the same.

And I think the attached banners models are ludicrous. Just imagine trying to get into a vehicle with that crap on your back...

I've done the same, and no one has ever had a problem with it. I really can't see anyone complaining unless they were purely looking to pick holes.
