So a trip to GW Manchester yesterday saw me agonising over the limited addition box set. Should I buy it or should I not?

The thing that stopped me was that I'm only interested in the mini rule book. Not yet owning a copy of the rules I was sorely tempted indeed but just could not decide between the box or the big book!

Sure the figures look nice but I wouldn't use them and would have to sell them. I could get back today for it if I had buyers for the bits to make it worth the while but my gaming buddies are incommunicado at the moment!

Aarrgghh!! Indecision!

You wouldn't have to sell them...
Though if you wanted to there's plenty of places you could sell them...
You could probably find someone to sell them to on Dakka for instance.

True but I think the read dilemma was that whilst I desperately want some rules and the small book is way easier to use/wield/handle the hardcover rules are a thing of beauty. I just couldn't decide as I trudged around the other nondescript shops with my family buying new school uniforms and shoes.

If the mini-rulebook is all you want, then just buy it off e-bay when people start putting them up for auction.

Yeah that is the probable route. I might put in a request to the commanding officer, mrs. spiritOfKantor for the hardcover rules. Birthday coming up in October.

If your a fan of the hobby the boxedset has a nice range of models even if your not playing the armies in question. They are some of the more detailed items currently on the market and are fun to paint.

Aside from that selling them whole cloth will net you the majority of the boxed set back. Conversely the models are a great jump point for both armies would you start either of them. Both armies are going to obtain new books here shortly so they might be very desirable (and again lead to a wealth of painting opportunities).

If you don't have a need for the models buy the rules on Ebay instead. Its a little silly to buy the models just to sell them again for roughly the same price. =P

It looks like you play Crimson Fists.

Why not buy the set, convert the Dark Angels into Fists, keep the rulebook and then sell or trade the Chaos?

If you get it and fancy trading some of the DA stuff for some Chaos stuff PM me.
I've got the Master, Librarian and Terminator squad still free.

Well, the offers at ebay are great. Buyers of the starter set seem to sell the stuff model or unit wise and at the end things are solds rather cheap.
So if you want to build up a DA or CSM army, I'd go for ebay in the first place.

Just hang out at the store until you see someone buying 2 starter sets. See if he'd sell you the rules book inside for like $5 or something. chances are you'll get it without much effort.

Thanks all. I'm humbled by the responses to this thread.

So I didn't buy anything, not even a pot of paint, on Saturday at GW.

Sunday morning, still wracked with indecision, I got up and ate breakfast.

Mrs. Kantor came down and announced she was going in to Halifax to buy mascara, would I like o come along for a coffee?

The cogs of the adeptus mechanicus began a turning! Yeah why not I replied...

Once there I stealthily detached from the mothership and headed to Halifax model shop. After a brief chat with the troll that runs it, I bit the bolter bullet and bought the hard back book!

I figured the independent retailer might as well gain a bit of profit from GW as it was th same price. He was happy, I was happy, Mrs. kantor was happy as she didn't have to look at my miserable chops any more, because now thy are happy space marine chops indeed!,
