Subject: The Dropzone Commander (DZC) Terrain building & modelling thread!
A thread for the building, modelling and acquisition of terrain & boards for Dropzone Commander!
This thread is designed to make it easier for players (especially new ones) to locate information on this topic, without having to browse through the DZC thread in the News & Rumour Section.
Please post a link to your terrain building/modelling blog (either Dakka or elsewhere), where you have bought some models or even pictures of someone else's work you have spied elsewhere!
New for July! Impudent Mortal's Tabletop Gaming Terrain Part Deux!
A new kickstarter focusing on 10mm terrain, perfect for Dropzone Commander
I'll post some pics of what we've done in here next time my group gets together to play . Nothing spectacular, just printing out his online buildings and making some trees, but I think it works pretty darn well and was pretty easy

|I bought this software last week - it's very modern era focused, and you can't add your own images easily (so I can't, for example, pull the texture from the Hawk Wargames buildings and add them to the program) but it's still quite useful even if you just use it to grab texture samples.
I wouldn't say it's worth the full $45, personally - but as we have some people here willing to drop money on all four huge army sets, you probably have some spare cash to throw around.
I had a think about Metcalfe buildings. Which are high quality cardstock.
To me all cardstock, including the buildings downloaded from Hawk are a temporary solution. Its ok for a railway layout and even then only for background buildings. For wargaming its completely unsuitable long term.
I remember how quickly how manky the GWcardstock towers in old Warhammer boxsets used to get. I never bothered building mine.
n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I got a bunch of buildings printed up by my local printing place on 350gms card (thickest they could do cheaply) and I'm planning to experiment with adding strengthening elements to them to see how that helps structural integrity and stability.
So many games, so little time.
So many models, even less time.
Screw it, Netflix and chill.

Thanks for posting that link Magus_mind, that resource is extremely useful! I will update the opening post.
What do people generally think about the scaling of N-Gauge? My thoughts are that it will be too large - I mean it's noticeably too big for Flames of War, which is 15mm scale, and the DZC minis are even smaller than that (10mm?)
Thanks also for the terrain building software Charax, looks very interesting!

I don't think N scale stuff is too large (unless it's different across the pond). N is almost exactly the same scale as 10mm. See this chart of scales: http://theminiaturespage.com/ref/scales.html
As far as the comparison to 15mm, perhaps you are thinking of HO scale which is too large for 15mm, but some folks use it anyway especially industrial buildings.
Ok thanks for the scale clarification Eilif! I've got half a mind to go mental and get £100's worth of Tomix/Greenmax stuff. Just all those little accessories you can get (buses, mopeds etc.) are just so cute!
Thanks for the links guys in any case, have updated the first thread.
I've designed some buildings for Dropzone Commander. Each design is backed with interlocking puzzle pieces so they can be taken apart for easy storage and transportation as well as be made into other buildings.
Here is an Art Deco design. It measures 4 by 3 and is 4 inches high.
And here it is broken down into it's pieces
I've also got ruined designs
I did a larger building, this one is 4 by 6 with 3 stories and 6 high.
And it will break down into 2 of the smaller size versions like this

I can also attest to the fact that MDF takes paint well I've based a ton of minis and terrain on MDF and it paints pretty much like wood, but without the grain of course.
FYI Only 4 days left! After the Kickstarter the buildings, trays, and paint racks will be available but they will also be going up in price. Get'em now while the gettin is good

In case you missed the first Kickstarter Impudent Mortal has designed 10mm Terrain specifically for Dropzone Commander!
We are now offering the same designs, but without the puzzle piece backing (but you can still get the puzzle piece backing if you want), for a quicker build.
As a special offer to members of DAKKA DAKKA if you pledge for any of the 4 building level of the 10mm terrain (Level 3 and 4) you will receive a 5th building FREE! If you are so inclined to pledge for 8 buildings that will get you 2 free buildings, and so on. After the Kickstarter is over, we'll send out a survey for your info and all you have to do mention your membership on this site to get your extra buildings.
This is our second Kickstarter and we are already funded so your guaranteed to receive your pledge. However we do send out rewards based on when the pledge was received so the sooner you pledge the quicker you will get your reward!
