I recently won a lot of marines on ebay and while the majority of them are fine there a few who, shall we say, have had generous amounts of glue applied to them. So far I have managed to carve my fingers with intricate knife designs as well as dodging snapped scalpel blades in the process of cleaning them up. So, as far as I can make out the glue is standard modelling glue, does anybody have any suggestions/solutions to at least loosen/soften it up? Has anyone discovered a wonder chemical that can break the glue down?

Freeze the models. It makes the glue more brittle and you can then ply off the offending parts.

"standard modelling glue" isn't a type of glue Are they plastic models? If it's plastic cement you probably wont have much luck at all as it melts the plastic when first applied. If it's superglue you can try freezing it and seeing how you go.
