Jealous that Horus is Warmaster
|
Hi, so as the title states, im looking for some help on dark angels. My main army is tyranids, but i have decided to switch to the men in power armor
I play games anywhere from 1000-2000 points,
If anyone could help me out with tactics and a good 1500 point list for either Deathwing only, Ravenwing only, or a mixture of both I would greatly appreciate it
Thanks

Well, the new starter set provides an opportunity to build up a DA army for little money (see ebay).
A strong army is the dualwing with DW Termies and RW Bikers. A good starting point is Belial and 4x5 DW Termies (each unit with assault cannon or cyclone and some storm shields). From here, you could expand with either Tacticals or RW Bikers.

I have the DV set 9 RW bikers plus the three that they have in the set so that makes 12. 3 squads of termies make 20 so I think I can get a list going. Are TH/SS termies still the way to go? Or PF/SB? I knowTLC is generally bad now

Well, I'd go for a mixture of weapon. TH/ SS Termies are the best choice along with a cyclone or assault cannon.

I have played dark angels since the emperor walked among us, so here is my two cents. Each of the three sub armies gives you a different feel of play so switching between them keeps things fresh, but if you were to choose only one... Ravenwing are my favorite. They require real finesse to use. When you win with them it was a victory of your tactics not your build, and thats a good feeling. Something nob biker lists will never know. The flip side is if you don't play them right you get creamed and that can be frustrating. Deathwing are always a solid choice. Very forgiving of mistakes, and fielding nearly 40 terminators at 2000 points is entertaining. Playing generic dark angels currently has no real value. Codex space marines does everything far better. But with a new codex coming out I hope that will change. As for mixing and matching It depends on your play style, the three groups give you a lot of options and variety.

-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake. |

Volkov, would a mixture of ravenwing and deathwing be a good all corners list?
And in a 1500-2000 point game would taking both belial and sammy be worth it?

Dualwing is more viable at larger pt levels, since you pay a tax for including both HQs.
In smaller pt games, I'd go for a DW army.

Ok, so just rinse and repeat with squads along these lines?
5x TH/SS termies with CML's?
Or are PFs/SBs with ACs viable too

I'd go deathwing with a squad or 2 of bikes with teleport homers...though might be worth while not getting too attached to the idea of either wing army and just hang out till the codex drops then decide

Deathwing and ravenwing are intrinsically good all-comers lists. The decision is about speed or survivability. Balancing the two is the safe approach but going all in at the extremes can overwhelm an army's ability to counter it.

I generally try to get as many terminators as I can with a mix of TH/SS and TLC with a CML in each squad. I also take 2-3 landspeeders with a CML as well.

You want to aim the CML, then you'll find stormbolters are either not in range or can not do that much damage to the target.
So no stormbolters are not that great especially compared to the other options.
Though if you have DV models use them anyway.
Plus you do not know what will happen in the new codex.

Well, a DW unit can have differently equipped Termies. One heavy weapon ( CML, HF or AC) is mandatory. Then two TH/ SS are good to soak up AP 2 wounds. The remaining two Termies could field SB/ PF for shooty goodness and cc punch.

SB/PF are still a very viable option, I had played a game yesterday against a very elite Ork list and only lost one squad of DW.
In a 1500 point game my list list is normally:
Belial - sword/sb - 130
Dreadnought - TL-AC - 125
5 DW - ass cannon, 1x cf - 250
5 DW - ass cannon, 1x cf - 250
5 DW - ass cannon, 1x cf - 250
5 DW - cyclone, 1x cf - 240
10 marines - plasma gun/cannon, melta bombs - 200
Razorback - TL-HB, SB - 55
Total = 1500
The marines/razorback and dread + cyclone DW form a nice little firebase, while the deathwing with asscans deepstrike in and make mince meat of the enemy.
All the Dw have standard equipment and the on mass asscans can be a real pain in butt.
They are quite devastating, if the list is built around them.

3 RW - 120
5x company vet squad - meltabombs - 105
Rhino - SB - 40
Group A - Belial, the vet squad, hop in the rhino and rush to CC
Group B - 1x RW squad scouts forward and 2x DW (1x Ac and 1x CML) deepstrike to a forward position
Group C - same as group B
Points - 1495
I haven't decided where to put the last five points, maybe give one of the RW squads Meltabombs and they can tank hunt.

5 DW - cyclone, 1x cf - 240
These are good but I really think you should drop the Chain fists, they should not be deepstriking close to the enemy.
3 RW - 120
3 RW - 120
5x company vet squad - meltabombs - 105
Replace the melta bombs with a melta gun, remember you cannot use the bombs unless in cc.
Rhino - SB - 40
Use the points saved from the chain fists to give them a Drop pod.
Group A - Belial, the vet squad, hop in the rhino and rush to CC
Belial cannont embark in a rhino (says in codex), drop pod is much better.
The last 5points should be used for a melta gun on the vets, RW can kill tanks with their krak grenades.
Not a bad list but think it needs a tweek or two, just to get the most out of our overpriced units.

I'm thinking of running belial with TLC and giving him a squad with 3 TLC and 2 TH/SS plop them in a land raider crusader/redeemer and charge the enemy, supported by DW squads in the back so my list would look like
Belial TLC-130
5 DW 2 TH/SS 3 TLC-200
5 DW 2 TH/SS 3 TLC-200
5 DW 2 TH/SS 3 SB/PF CML-235
5 DW 2 TH/SS 3 SB/PF CML-235
Land raider crusader-250
Land raider crusader-250
1500 points on the dot
CC termies go in the land raiders along with belial and they rush the enemy while 2 squads of shooty terminators and the LR after they drop the termies provide support. Suggestions on how to improve the list?

I do really like the double raider lists, but I think in 6th ed they have become a bit more unreliable due to the hull points rule. Although that said, in a 1500 point game they can be unstoppable.
Also a quick tally up of the list and you are 30 points over, the DW with TH/SS are 215 not 200.
How about this:
Belial - TH/SS - 130
DW - 4x TH/SS, 1x SB/CF, Apothacary - 250
DW - 2x TH/SS, 2x SB/PF, 1x CF/Cyclone - 240
DW - 2x TH/SS, 2x SB/PF, 1x CF/Cyclone - 240
DW - 2x TH/SS, 2x SB/PF, 1x CF/Cyclone - 240
Landspeeder - Typhoon, Multi-melta - 75
Landspeeder - Typhoon, Multi-melta - 75
Land Raider Crusader - 250
1500 points

No they are not bad, but I do believe that they took a slight nerf now being ap3. The more TH/SS you got the better chance of survival, and they kill everything. LC can only kill what the users strength allows them to kill.

But LC give you 1 more attack and rerolls to hit. Also 3++ aren't needed on that many models, 1-2 per squad should be good to soak up the weapons that bypass our 2+ right?

You are indeed correct, but I do play against people who take lots of plasma and lascannon, so I have to take more SS. If you want to try Twin LC then go ahead its your army. I just think that a clever enemy could exploit the LC and see them as a weakness.
They also allow you re-roll the failed wounds, not the hits.

If its orks and nids you are up against the most, then I would suggest a mix of TH/SS and LC for the nids as they have lack of 2+ saves but the SS will protect from there MC, but the orks I would take TH/SS, not only do they have access to mega armour but they also have av14 BW. Hammernators FTW against orks.
