So, what happens? Is this a mishap? I don't think so. Are the models placed on the terrain over which they end up? I think so. If this is Ruins, is it still the ground floor? I also think so. Do they take Impact Hits for Deep Striking below their intended altitude? I think they should, but the Rule Book only calls for taking Impact Tests when voluntarily Leaping Down or Abandoning the Battlements. Any thoughts on this?

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

The models are placed where they end up after the scatter is rolled.

They never take impact hits from "Leaping Down or Abandoning the Battlements" as they were never actually on the battlements to begin with, one model was placed there but they end up where they scatter.

they will take dangerous terrain tests if they end up in area terrain.

You havent actually "arrived" until after the final scatter position has been found - the model you place is just a marker.
