I assume you don't mean the best way to avoid getting them in the first place...though next time, it is a good place to start.
Normally, when I have to fix finger prints for other people I use Apoxie Sculpt and their Safety Solvent (you can use acetone and I think I recall some people using water as well).
Mix up a little of the putty and then drip a bit of the solvent on it. Use a gloved hand to mix it together till it is a bit like tooth paste. With the gloved hand you can smear it into the ridges of the finger print. Clean up using a Q-tip and some more solvent to get it off areas you don't want it.
