Librarian - Epistolary, BP, Null Zone + Avenger - 150pts

Dreadnought - 2x Autocannon Arms

2x Tactical Squads, Twin Lasbacks + Stormbolter (to protect the Lascannon), Plasgun, Lascannon, Sgt/w Melta Bomb

2x Stormtalon w/ TL Lascannon

Dev Squad w/ 4x Missiles

Contemptor Mortis w/ two Kheres Assault Cannon + Cyclone Missile Launcher (215pts)

--

Currently the list I'm planning on running. It'll give me 6 Lascannons, 6 Missiles, 20 Assault Cannon shots, with a bit of Plasma and Autocannon sprinkled in. The Librarian will take powers depending on who I'm facing. The Stormbolter on the Razorbacks is for defending the Lascannons, and hey, even snapshotting. They'll be good for on PtA for some firepower, and on the objective games as they can still get my combat squads to where they need to go. I'm tempted to drop the Storm Bolters + Melta Bombs + 1 Plasma Gun to a Melta to get a Rhino for the Devastators, just to have a back up rhino.

It's pretty much a gunline list. The only thing I'm super attached to is the Contemptor, as he's gone for 10 - 12 games without being killed, and ripping bloody chunks out of everything he looks at.

Any C&C would be good.

The list looks good.

If you really think the Rhino for the Devastators is necessary then do buy it.

I don't like the Lascannon Razorback. The Assault cannon razorback is superior against armour and infantry.

If you're taking tac squads a match combi-weapon to theior special weapon is manditory. Why would you pay nearly 300 points for your tac squads but not another 10 to double their efficiency? Madness.

The Epistolary upgrade isn't worth it on a Libby with no access to Divination powers. Drop it.

Dev squads are meh, the Dread needs a buddy and the Typhoon is the best option on the Talon (unless your desperate for points). Also no S10 means nob bikerz run over your list without pausing.

I'd equipe your Tac squads like this:

10 men: Plasma, Combi-plasma, Las-cannon, Razorback with lascannon + TL Plasmagun (so no need for a SB for LC protection and 2 more Ap2 S7 shots thrown in for good measure).

Drop the Dread the Epistolary and the Dev squad and get 2 Vindicators.

Th is should just about free up enough points to get an Aegis Defence Line. Great for protecting your deployment xone and great for dealing with enemy fliers.

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Against Light Armor and Most infantry, yes. However, the Lascannons pay off against anything with higher armor and Marine style characters - A marine captain will be killed half the time when eating a Lascannon Blast, for example, and that pays for itself.

Combi-Weapons aren't as necessary as they used to be, I've found. In fact, this edition may even value having naked sergeants, and just using them as Challenge soakers and leadership boons. Besides, a Combi Weapon doubles their effectiveness for one turn, which doesn't necessarily mean it's an overall double in efficiency.

I've found Telepathy works rather well. Psychic Shriek can annihilate many important models, or even just abilities like Terrify, Invisibility, and Hallucination have turned parts of a battlefield for me. Terrify caused a squad of Death Company to flee for a turn, giving me another chance to shoot them to bits. (Terrify strips Fearless and causes an immediate morale test.)

I agree Devastators are over priced in the Vanilla Marines book. However, the Four Missile Launchers have payed off, though I might be able to be convinced to remove the Dread and the Devastators for two Vindicators. The Lascannons will probably stay, due to the fact that I overall lack the punch in my list to remove Armor 14, since I have no melta weaponry. Besides, Lascannons are always good for picking off targets. As well, nobody in my area runs nob bikers, as the only Ork player runs Ork Horde at the moment.

I'd equipe your Tac squads like this:

10 men: Plasma, Combi-plasma, Las-cannon, Razorback with lascannon + TL Plasmagun (so no need for a SB for LC protection and 2 more Ap2 S7 shots thrown in for good measure).

Like I said before, I prefer to run my Sergeants naked. Besides, Tactical Squads are generally not the powerhouses of a list, and are there for objective games and bunkering up on killpoint missions. I also dislike Lasplasbacks, because the need to construct them from scatch coupled with the new overheat rules turned me off of them a bit.

Drop the Dread the Epistolary and the Dev squad and get 2 Vindicators.

The Dread and the Devs, coupled with the 30pts I have floating in Melta Bombs and Storm Bolters, will give me 65pts left over if I add dozerblade Vindicators (thats how the models came!). I could add a 50pt Aegis. or I could find a way to invest the 35pts elsewhere, though nothing really comes to mind. Having no combi weapon bits puts a damper on the chance of running combi sergeants regardless. (Besides the fact that I like the 3 attack sergeant! >.&gt

With the Contemptor Mortis and two Stormtalons, I should have plenty of firepower to deal with anything but the most abusive necron flyer spam, even with the list in the current form.

You gave me something to think about with the Vindicators - I'll be sure to take note how well my Dakka Dread / Devastators perform, since the last tournament I was in both served me well. I also worry about taking too hard of a list to my local gaming store, as I don't want to scare everyone off playing me.

I'll make note of it for when I'm building a tournament list.

Thank you for the input, and I look forward to seeing your responses (if you do)

Actually assault cannons are better than lascanons against high av. Being 33% more likely to get a penetrating or glancing hit.

Also i don't see you getting many shots against marine captains unless your opponent is a moron and against such opponents the contemptor should win you the game on its own....

Telepathy is a decent discipline just 50 points on a model with no invun and no divination just seems too much.

Id still suggest the combis on the tac sergeants. It makes the squad almost killy for a turn.

Lasplas is still awesome as plasma got better in this edition as the plasma is twinlinked you should worry much about gets hot either.

If you're going to a tournament then you will face nobbikerz and it can't be too long before your or friend works it out either.

Forgot about the morris stupid skyline rule yeah you don't really need the quadgun. But its still good and can soak fire against flier lists to keep the morris alive.
