I've played Orks, Space marines, and Tau and feeling like something different... At the moment i'm torn between Eldar and Dark Eldar, I love the fluff of both of them and now just want to know from a gaming aspect? Whats the big difference between them? Their play styles, the overall army feel? Any help is appreciated

Neither army is forgiving, but you shouldn't make the mistake of assuming they are similar in armour, while guardians are lie armour save the Eldar army in general us not. However, since neither actually allow you to suffer casualties graciously, both must use manoeuvring excessively and both are pretty well equipped for it.
The difference lies in the weapons used, where dark Eldar use lances more and poison most, craftworld use vast amounts of s6.

That said, dark Eldar are most up to date, although their advertised play style guy hit pretty hard, I'd say both are equally powerful/potent but also that both are fighting up hill.

Choose based on aesthetics, I'd say. Craftworld will be updated first, but that's something like a year hence. Dark Eldar will in the meanwhile have the better sculpts.
You can also ride the fence, they are highly compatible with each other.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Agreed, eldar and death eldar are considered battle brothers so you can take the best of both worlds honestly. Dark eldar are great but have no psychic ability so best bet is to get done of that with some heavy hitting from the craft world kin

I love the eldar and the whole idea of aspect warriors, and if you paint them in traditional colors, you can practice on your ability to paint different colors. In my book its eldar > dark eldar

I am in the same thought at the moment and it's leaning towards Dark Eldar with Eldar allies. You could run the most variety with Dark Eldar as the main army I believe since all Eldar elite choices but Harlequins are bad atm. And Harlequins are in the DE codex too so no harm there. I also like the DE bikers much more than the Eldar counterpart. Troopwise it's the same with DE troops superior. It's not very tempting to bring Guardians with 12" range on their ranged weapons.

I think that Harleys COULD be a good troop choice depending on how they're used and such.. but alot of it is luck of the dice as well. So it's a toss up

i picked dark eldar because i have always loved the bad guys, and their fluff is tragic in my eyes. I like the style they have speed over armour and i like ranged warfare, to my eyes they are pleasing to look at, i cant stand eldar and their derpy helms and clashing colours it is very gaudy. But play style wise they are finesse based so it is a matter of preference.

Wherever and whenever they appear they leave only destruction in their wake; they are the Lords of Death, Bringers of War. The Dark Angels.

Well you have 2 good(ish) army's to one awesome evil one so id say Dark Eldar tho id do Eldar personally.

Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.

Dark eldar are great to me. They lack armor but pack a punch. The poisoned attacks always wound on 4+ or better so great against infantry. For armor. Our dark lances are bs 4 and strength 8. 36in range so with lance you are rolling 3 to hit and at max 4s to glance. Wyches are decent with a new roll since over watch kills them in assault. So they are decent small grouped tank hunters with haywire grenades. Hariquins took a hit on eldar FAQ but not dark eldar so that's a plus. Just some of my quick thoughts.

Well, I'd opt for Eldar as they will get a new codex soon (as rumoured) and are more resilient (their tanks) than DE. Then you can include DE as allies. This should work perfect for you.

I second this. If you only like DE reaver jetbikes, then just go with Eldar w/ DE allies, the recommended dosage for jetbike is an unit of 3-9 anyway, so you can just ally with a cheap HQ and troop(hexhaemie + hexwracks), then bring 9 reavers! Unless you're Mushkilla, then you run 27 of them and do amazingly well too...

i agree go eldar with dark eldar allies. I picked dark eldar and refuse to get eldar for allies unless they get better looking infantry without the dumb helmets.
