I'm new to FOW and am looking to get into the game with the new "Open Fire" starter set. It is my impression from reading that the two forces are not of equal points. My question is what would be a recommended purchase to match the Germans up point wise the allies? I am sure there will be a plethora of answers, but id prefer a thrifty option.

Thank you in advance.

If you add 2 Fireflies to the Brits and 5 PzIVHs to the Germans, both sides are 1220points

That's Guards Armored from HH and Grenadiers from GW.

If you bought 2 Sherman Fireflys for the Brits, you'd be able to add them to the combat platoons so they have 2 Shermans and 2 Fireflys each:

Compulsory Guards Armoured Squadron HQ - 1x CIC Sherman, 1x 2iC Sherman (185 pts)

Compulsory Guards Armoured Platoon - 1x Command Sherman, 1x Sherman, 2x Sherman Firefly (390 pts)

Compulsory Guards Armoured Platoon - 1x Command Sherman, 1x Sherman, 2x Sherman Firefly (390 pts)

US Parachute Rifle Platoon - 1x Command Rifle/MG, 6x Rifle/MG, 1x M2 60mm Mortar, 1x Bazooka (255 pts)

1220 Points, 3 Platoons

Ok, looking at the German forces, and using the Grens list from Grey Wolf, by adding a platoon of PzIVHs you are also at 1220pts

Compulsory Grenadier Company HQ - 1x CinC SMG, 1x 2iC SMG (45 pts)
- Panzerschreck - 1x Panzerschreck (25 pts)

Compulsory Grenadier Platoon - 1x Command Rifle/MG, 6x Rifle/MG (155 pts)

Compulsory Grenadier Platoon - 1x Command Rifle/MG, 6x Rifle/MG (155 pts)

Grenadier Anti-tank Gun Platoon - 1x Command SMG, 2x 7.5cm PaK40 (105 pts)

Panzer Platoon - 1x Command Panzer IVH, 4x Panzer IVH (450 pts)

StuG Platoon - 1x Command StuG G, 2x StuG G (285 pts)

1220 Points, 5 Platoons

If you buy the extra vehicles from The Plastic Soldier Company , they are only £18.50 for a box of 5...
(And you can ALWAYS find room for more tanks in a list , or is that just me? )

P.S. If you get then PSC Stug boxed set it allows you to model Stug 42 too.
(The Sherman V boxed set allows Firefly variants too!)

Or you could always pick up some Plastic Soldier Company SdKfz 251/D sets and turn that Grenadier company into a Panzer Grenadier company!

There's a lot of mid-war in my area. I'm interested in running the same type of list, but would it work with as a Pioneer company? Specifically, I'm drawn to the SD KFZ 251's...
Is there a difference between a Grenadier MG or Rifle group and a Pioneer MG or Rifle group?
