Whilst the new Open Fire box set looks cool, I reckon I would still save more money by buying from 3rd parties and just buy the rulebook off ebay.

I've got the vehicles set-I plan to get everything from PSC.

But I don't know for infantry. Which manufacturer makes the best infantry?

if You are into Germans and Soviets, then it is the PSC (strange that You did not noticed it). Also Wargames Factory has 15 mm Germans. Other factions do not have a plastic 3rd party-made equivalent in 15 mm yet.

I'm not necessarily looking for plastic infantry, just ones that look good.

Forged in Battle looks alright.

FiB is good indeed, there is also Peter Pig. But frankly speaking, infantry is not the most expensive part and BF infantry is quite reasonably priced + You everything You need and all upgrades and options. BF tanks and APCs are the most expensive stuff, for which we now have cheaper plastic alternatives.

The problem is, BF infantry is fething ugly. I just hope that the new starter set marks a new dawn for their infantry range.

I used to think that those pumpkin heads are ugly too. But when deployed on the table and properly painted they actually look OK.

I'm personally a fan of Peter Pig infantry, and they scale fine with BFs. I can only really comment on LW Germans though, but I use PP for most of my force with the occasional BF model.

So far I have found Skytrex to be my fave as I find the preportions right and the models pretty clean. They do 10 man squads or larger 5o man packs of the same types.

They also do a good selection of vehicles and the gun packs are pretty good value but with seperate crew. The only down side is that postage is £5 so not so good for small orders but good for larger ones.

Peter pig is also pretty decent.

Ive just ordered some essex miniatures, which look ok on the website but havent recieved them yet!

I'm a big fan of the command decision line. They're reasonably cheap and you can buy them in bulk (in the US at least) for a really good deal. They are thinner sculpts than bf and their heads are more realistically portioned.

I also have a bunch of the Old Glory/Command Decision infantry. I got some polystyrene sheets from a local model shop to cut up for bases.

I've heard mixed opinions about Command Decision's vehicles. Miscasts, excessive flash and all that.

Does this apply to the infantry as well?

I personally have had more issues with BF vehicles then with OG vehicles, particularly the resin hulls.

I have never had a miscast OG part, nor what I would call excessive flash. I have had BF mini's with flash issues though.

I can only recommend you get a bag of infantry and see for yourself.

Yes, I find Skytrex/Command Decision infantry does look ok, but requires allot of cleanup work. Even more than Battlefornt.

Personally I’m a big fan of Forged in Battle, not only because I like the poses and detail but because there is very little cleanup work to do. Hardly a mould line to be found.

My command decision soviets had actually less flash than my battlefront ones did. The amount of flash may vary depending on the mold though. I have soviet infantry packs 1 and 2 and the soviet light machine gun packs and they all worked out quite well.

Forged in Battle and Peter Pig are my favourites. Both will mix with Battlefront.

Peter Pig and Forged in Battle are my favoured metal infantry manufactuers. Skytrex/Old Glory sculpts are quite variable and their cast quality can be quite poor., thats not to say that they aren't usable though.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

You can get the skytrex/command decision models from Old Glory Miniatures here in the states. If you are an Old Glory Army Card Member, they are 40% off. I bought a bunch of german halftracks and they look pretty good, but theyre not the same look as BF (skytrex/CD are wider and shorter, while BFs are taller and narrower. They'll look fine on the tabletop.
