Subject: Grey Knight Grand Master Grand Strategy? (Say that three times fast!)

So I'm running Grey Knights (counts as Thousand Sons) and I want to run some other imperial space marine allies, or even Guard at times. I want to have a Grand Master lead the force, and I want to use his grand strategy to turn otherwise non-scoring allies (since they can only be allies of convenience) scoring with it. Is this possible, or is this a case of one codex's bonus/powers not being applied to another codex through the ally rules (sorta like how Chaos Daemons can't use Chaos Space Marine icons).
What do you all think? This is sorta the lynchpin of my strategy.

Well considering GK are battle-brothers with no one, I don't think the power can be applied to other armies.

This is a case where you cannot benefit from the other books abilities.

Daed is right. If you want battle brothers, you're gonna need to look outside of the grey knights. Grand Strategy ONLY works on Grey Knights.

Well, first: Allies of Convenience don' t prevent scoring allies from scoring, that's only for desperate allies.
And second: I found no rule that prohibits using unyielding anvil on allied units. Can anybody quote the rule they rely on? It doesn't even exclude non-GK-units, and the FAQ didn't change that either.

Hellgore:
At the start of the game, before forces are deployed, the Grand Master can assign special battlefield roles to units under his command
Units in your army treat Allies of Convenience as enemy units
(Your Grand Master is also a unit in your army)
If you read the flavour text of allies of convenience, the people in that army are hardly under the Grey Knight's command.
such alliances seldom last for an entire battle, let alone a campaign, but that brief while can be sufficient for immediate needs
I'd say that means they are under the command of their own HQ, and that HQ has decided they shall sort of work with the grey knights (just keep your distance and it'll be fine, lads.)

It works if the GKs are the Ally detachment. The Grand Master can make an otherwise nonscoring unit(of GKs) into a scoring unit. So a Desperate Alliance between an ork force and a small Gk force could have D3 Gk units be scoring.

So, all you bring up is fluff but no real rule to base your pov on? Oki then...

"Units in your army treat allies of convenience as enemy units..."
If the allied units are enemies, they cannot benefit from an ability that targets units "under his command".
Furthermore, given that even Inquisitorial warbands are not allowed to benefit from the Grand Strategy, we can clearly see that the rule is conceived as strictly for GK.
RAW there is no clear indication, but to me it's clear that Allies shouldn't be able to benefit from GK Grand Strategy. You can talk about it to your opponent but personally, I wouldn't allow that since you cannot prove me that these allied units are under "his command".

I agree with punkow that you should definitely discuss this with your opponents or TO. RAW so long as it fits the correct unit types that you are assigning it to it should work, but I have the feeling that this is another rule that was overlooked in the GK codex when they updated to 6th, like the Shadow Skies rule for the SR.
