Currently if a transport flyer is destroyed, pretty much anything inside is dead with a Str 10 armour ignoring hits.

I was thinking that's a little to harsh for the units inside. Instead, what about the Leap Down rule, where the unit leaps from flyer from 2D6" up, maybe +3" if the vehicle suffers explodes rather than just wrecked (6 always passes).

Thoughts?

Leap? Sure. You go ahead and leap down from a plane travelling at well over the speed of sound from a mile in the air. The TT isn't to scale. Planes aren't flying all willy nilly 200 feet over the battlefield. Not usually, at least.

Maybe an eject rule. Leap down just sounds ridiculous. The more passengers, the harder it is for them to all to escape alive, and they scatter the full 2D6".

Well, I was thinking they leap as it comes down and it's a "safe" distance. Guess it depends on who's leaping too. I can see a SM surviving such a jump, but not a guardsmen or ork without some serious luck.

Spartans in Halo leap out of a pelican, and are injured but survive...

Cool ideas! While we're at it, let's remove this whole silly idea of close combat and weak weapons. Troopers are obviously using superpowered weapons and artillery, as well as electronic warfare and satellite/space support. In fact, let's do away with most ground-battles altogether; everyone knows war will be won in space, with naval superiority.

Oh wait that would make sense.

Pit your chainsword against my chainsw- wait that's Heresy.

Well...you realize the leap down rule basically works the same as a strength 10 hit in that everyone still has the same chance of dying (since you can't take armor saves from leap down either), just the die roll is kinda the opposite direction. Instead of wounding on a 2+ you'd be wounding on a 2- or maybe 3-.

Anyway, I think crash and burn works fine how it is, personally. Jumping from a falling/exploding jet would just be....ridiculous.

Oh, and you'd get FNP from leap downs as opposed to crash and burns hit (most of the time). Increasing the survivability of a unit in an exploding aircraft that is already a little too good in the game right now is not a great idea, personally.
