I'm starting orks, but I'm not to sure weather to make them evil sunz or bad moon. I'm a complete n00b to orksand I don't really know how both clans are played. I'm pretty sure evil sunz is speadfreak? Correct me if I'm wrong. But that's about all I know. Could you guys please give me some info on the clans so I can decide? Thanks, and happy wargaming!

It doesn't matter one bit in terms of how the army plays.
It's simply a matter of personal visual preference.
I couldn't decide either, so I made both.
I have 60 Evil Sunz Boyz, A Big Mek with KFF, A Warboss on Bike, 20 Bikers, and all my Battle Wagons, Trukks, and Buggies are Evil Sunz Red.
I also have 60 Badmoonz Boyz, A Big Mek with KFF, A mega armored Warboss on foot, 9 Kans, 2 Deffdreads, and 6 Koptas, and 25 Lootas, all in Badmoonz Yellow.

My Orks all wear yellow or white shirts, black or brown pants, red armour on sholders and such.

It looks like a Speed Freek army but I dont have any bikes, only one of each of the following: Battlewagon, Looted Wagon, Dakkajet.

I have 2 trukks and 5 Deffkoptaz. Not every unit is mounted. I don't think of them as Speed Freeks.

I just see them as Evil Suns who tend to matters behind friendly lines (fueling trukks, delegating ammo, repairing jets and wagons).

there seems to be a certain style of play and different models in each clan. Anything in that matter?

You're correct, the evil sunz are speed freak, and that's who I play because I like the style. They're fun to paint because the squiggly yellow bits are easy to make look good. For units you'd go with bikers, troops mounted on trills and battlewagons, and deffcoptas. The big meks are usually the HQs, since they're needed to keep the sunz driving, and if you're a dab hand at conversions you could use a bike and your extra bits to make a Wazdakka model, since there's no official one.

As for bad moons, their aesthetic is kind of "rich kid". Orks use teeth for currency, and the moons are genetically predisposed to fast growing teeth. They can afford the best equipment and are in constant competition for the best and fanciest equipment. The Flash Gitz and the Lootas are their most typical units, and their boyz would probably ride around in really pimped out battlewagons. They'd be a more elite and shooty ork army, maybe with a few scurrying units of gretchin servants to hold objectives and be meatshields for their masters.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I'm actually doing a bit of all of them. Doing a freebooters army so I can intermix them. It helps a lot in keeping track of which boyz belong to which squads once their on the table. Having over 100+ boyz on the table and they start gettin mixed up. The different colors help to keep track of them

what do you recomend for me to get started on bad moon? For instance, what basic troops do I need, and elites, e.t.c, to get me started?

Evil Sunz make their bikes, Bad Moons afford their bikes. It's what you want to do, it's just aesthetics on the table. Even though you can get red paint job upgrades and things.

You need at least a Warboss and a bunch of boyz. Every Ork army at their core uses a mass horde of boyz. For Bad Moons, in their fluff on page .14 of the Ork Codex that Bad Moons tend to have preference sitting back and shooting. I'm a Bad Moons guy so I usually run a bunch of battlewagons and sput Ork Shoota boyz in them, I also use Meganobz but I suggest not buying them from GW. Try to look for them in cheaper places, they are way too overpriced for just one model. Lootas are more of a Deathskull thing but they work too.

But again, you should buy what suits your playstyle anyway. Ork fluff is set up in such a way where you can choose whatever clan you want and do whatever you want with them. Or if you want make your own clan, it's up to you. Bikes are king now apparently, I haven't used them but people have been favoring them.

There is a good thread discussing 6th edition and how it effects orks. It should help you with building your army.

The tribe you choose doesen't really tell what you have to take to your army, or what theme you should have. Unless you want to play really fluffy orks of course.
I have chosen to paint my boyz in their own way, killa kanz a bit of a goff style, and all the faster vehicles evil sunz stylish red, because red ones go fasta
It is all about what you want of your army, you could always even invent a tribe of your own.

bad moon orks are rich, so i'm assuming lot's of dakka like bombers and batlewagons? And deff dreads and mega nobz?

If you wanted to go fluffy for Moons, you might go with something like:

HQ: Warbosses or a Warboss and BM, with lots of fancy stuff
Troops: Include a unit of nobs or MANz with a boss for a real fancy smashy unit, and mobs of shoota boyz. The nobs can ride in a big fancified BW
HS: Kilcannon Battlewagons or big arrays of Big Gunz manned by gretchin servants. And of course Flash Gits.
FA: Minimal, since these are not speed freaks who would use tons of fast stuff or Blood Axes where you'd see lots of stormboyz, but you could use a really fancy biker squad with lots of bling
Elite: Kommandos would be more at home with blood axes, but they do have the money to buy plenty of burnas or deffgunz.
Troops: the hard core of boyz (go with shoota boyz) can be augmented with nobs, a squad for each warboss you include, or gretchins, stupid expensive at 40 points minimum for a perfect unit to go to ground all day on an objective.

Ok. I think i'll get a bombet, a deff dread, 2 squads of shoota boyz with battlewagons, Burnas in a battlewagon, and lot's of mega nobs. Sound good?

I'd also point out that growing Waaagh!'s start to be composed of multiple clans, for example the Waaagh! on Castorel Novem cosisted of Goffs, Evil Sunz and Deff Skulls, while Thrakka's Waagh! on Armageddon included dozens of tribes from each clan. So once you don't like yellow paint anymore, just add a new clan to your Waagh!

Otherwise, you've got a pretty good idea of what a bad moon army looks like.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I do Goff speed freaks, my boyz needed a lift but them gits wouldn't help em so wez had a bit o scrapin and took der trukk's.

i wanted to try a different paint scheme with my orcs so i did a classic speed freak paint job, then made it look like it'd been scraped up in a fight then did some newer goff paint over the top from where they'd patched it up.

Its really different from the ordered paint job of my necrons and wolves, makes a nice change to just go nuts on a paintjob.

My friend has his own clan of orks, and he really enjoys playing them because they go with his liking and they're unique. So what I might do is make a clan based around my favourite ork models. This way I should enjoy playing them more, which is what 40k is all about! Sound good?

Just do what you want!
The fluff is not a limitation, or a set and enforced play style.
Sure, you like Badmoons (And I agree, they are my favorite clan too, because I love the yellow) but that doesn't mean you are shoehorned in to that play style, fluff, or even that clan.
How about purple Biker gangs?
How about orange Battle Wagon spam?
