I was pondering adding an ally army to my space wolves and was thinking of using Imperial guard for tanks and flyers. Any thoughts on how this might work?

Hi. While I don't play Space Wolves myself, I do have a Thousand Sons army that fights against them on a regular basis. Here's what he uses (to great effect, might I add):

2 ML:2 priests: Divination and Runic Armor
2 Lone Wolves in TDA with power weapons and such
4 GH squads with 2x Plasma Gun
3 LF squads with max MLaunchers
Command Squad w/ reserve modifier/ordnance guy
Veteran Squad with a few plasmaguns
2x LR tanks with no sponsons
Aegis Line, Quad Gun

No one correct me on points, thats just a rough idea of his normal lists give or take a GH squad and the Lone Wolves

That is just.... So simple and nasty. I have beaten him once in a year of playing, and it was because of a tournament scenario which I wasn't even paying attention to. I had a single squad or so left.

Good luck, pal.

Brometheus has a someone who apparently does not like him as that is a pretty solid build.

The basis of any alliance is to fill in a gap that is not easily filled by your army.

Do you like to run your Wolves as an in your face assault element? Take a blob platoon with some heavy firepower to sort out your home objective issue.

Always trying to outgun your opponent but find yourself lacking...bring some Russes, Vendettas and so on.

What are you working with in terms of Wolves and we can help you supplement that with I.G. thoughts.

Lost in the Warp....

I would say a vendetta, and some infantry squads, maybe a leman russ or manticore. This is because space wolves can cover many different areas, they are good at shooting and also can be good at assault. Guard can help with anti flyers, and more scoring units.

Same list, different army

I tend to run my space wolves as footsloggers with a squad or 2 of longfangs and some thunderwolves. Not because they are very effective like this but because I like the look of the army and it's fun to play.

I was thinking that Imperial guard might work well for some vehicular support.
