Hey all, heard a somewhat troubling rumour, and was hoping you could help me out. I was hanging out at the local GW, and a long time friend of mine whom happens to also be an employee asked me if I had heard about the HQ talking about removing all of the gaming tables from the GW stores, the main idea being that it would "help enable better sales through the removal of barriers between employee and customer." I was shocked to say the least as I was there to play a game on their tables, as is my custom before I make my purchases for the day. Personally, I would just shop online if not for the tables, as I am one of the ones who feels a sense of community and duty to support the store I play at. Given the removal of said tables, I would quickly relocate myself to an independent shop with tables; I buy so I can play the game moreso than collect.

So Dakka, what have you heard? Similar stories? Am I being fed a line?
You decide!

It is really reassuring to hear that no one else is hearing anything like I am. I was talking to my employee-friend and he said that since the manager of the store seemed so serious about it, that he had considered quitting should that day come. It isn't like him to jump straight to ultimatums, hence my belief this might have merit. Alas, the internet has again been a great source of relief for said worries. If I hear more, I'll post about it again, but for the meantime (and given the general consensus), I'll leave well enough alone.

Thanks guys!

um your friend is going to quit his job if they remove the gaming tables?

Yeah. He, much like me, is much more interested in the actual gameplay that 40k is than the painting or collecting. Many a time on his off days we will meet at the store he works at to play on the tables. With those tables gone, not only does he feel that a massive chunk of the point of him playing the game (and hence him working there in the first place) would be gone, but he feels that it would ultimately hurt his sales ability leading to a poorer performance in the long run. He often shows off the veterans playing to help close a pitch. While I (and he) know that this is not ideal by the corporate standards, it helps him be #1 in the store, so he doesn't really care. If they shut down his selling tool, he doesn't want to be there anymore.
