Each major colour has a Space Marine chapter.

Ultramarines
Blood Angels
White Scars
Black Templars
Imperial Fists

Every colour... except orange.

Any ideas for an orange themed space marine chapter?

I've thought maybe a fire or sun themed army but Salamanders kind of have the fire theme sewn up.

Maybe a play on words like Ultramarines.

I'm thinking Mandarins of some sort. They would be a Chinese themed army much like White Scars are Mongol themed. Maybe they would be devoted to the Codex Astartes like the Ultramarines but approach it more like Sun Tzu's Art of War. The main colour would be orange (of course) with azure and jade green being secondary colours. Hmmmm

Imperial Mandarins
Holy Mandarins
The Mandarins of Tian 7

Any other ideas?

I know space wolves look awesome with orange shoulder pads instead of yellow. Orange has always been more of a highlight/accessory color for me. Just make sure you avoid black/orange together, unless you want everyone to think you are making a halloween themed army

Or just do 90s Blood Angels!

They were very orange. Even had their own paint.

my chapter the Son's of Fuffcan's (i use the Black Templar codex hence my signature) uses a orange theme in detail they are:

orange for the primary colour of 1/2 blazing orange and 1/2 dwarf bronze
black sholder pads
purple trim and accessories
Tin bitz, Burnished gold, mithril, chainmail for the Aquila's chains and such
and goblin/scorpion green for the eyes

i'm pretty bad at painting and my friend says its a god awful looking army (which i honestly almost agree with him) but hey i like the colours of purple and orange and i'm sticking to it.

Blood Angels were never orange. Blood Angels Red paint was orange. You were supposed to go over it with red ink.

Look at any of the pictures in Codex: Angels of Death. They are red.

Then you're some kind of color blind and may want to get that checked.

Do you mean orange themed or orange coloured?
Because a citrus fruit themed Space Marine army would be ... interesting

If you want to do an orange themed army, plan on painting your army brown>orange>yellow. Orange is such a vivid color that it really needs a darker tone under it to keep it from looking flat.

One option is to basecoat in white and feather from the dark side of the armor/carapace in brown, then feather in the darkest orange on up to the yellows in the opposite direction. I like to feather the browns over a base of white, lay down a coat of the darkest orange, do a medium brown wash, then move on to pure orange feathering from the light side of the armor/carapace.

I think starting with brown as a base for orange-ish colors is ideal simply because you don't have much dynamic range past orange to give it a solid and vivid feel otherwise. Next is yellow, then white, and you are out of room with a low contrast color range. Keep in mind that yellow paint only gets more pale and whiter, not brighter.

I'll give you they were at the red end of orange, but calling it red wouldn't be right. I've even checked some of the pics and I still stand by what I say.
