I am hoping someone can help me.

I know Valthex is a forgeworld character, but my FLGS has approved forgeworld units for tournament play as long as they are 40k approved. As seeing how i have an Astral Claws army i want to use him but i dont want to buy the IA 9 book without making sure i can use him.

So does anyone know if he has the 40k approval stamp?

What.

There is no "40k approval stamp" - there's just Forgeworld and the tournament organiser's opinion on it.

Unless your FLGS actually means a Forgeworld model for Games Workshop rules (from a Codex or White Dwarf)? Such cases are rare, but they exist.

The 40k approved stamp was not introduced until the publication of Imperial Armour Apocalypse 2nd Ed. (published after both Badab War Books)

Know thy self. Everything follows this.

Lightcavalier has it. Valthex is in the Badab books. They weren't using 40k Approved stamps then. Note that the 40k Approved stamps are just to differentiate between standard units and Apocalypse only units. If your FLGS is allowing the items with 40k approved stamps, then they should be good with other non-apocalypse units from the older books. Just make sure you are using the most recent rules.

I'd talk with the Tournament Organizer about it. If it's an FW friendly FLGS, then they shouldn't have an issue with him. He's rather expensive for what he does.

The newest FW books have been adding "40k Approved" and "Apocalypse" to differentiate what should be used in a normal game for units that should be reserved for Apocalypse. It isn't a "You opponent must allow you to use this in a 40k game" as much as it is a "This unit is intended for Apoc" or "This unit is intended for standard 40k games."
