So I had this idea about a more detailed way to damage vehicles. I don't hate the current way, i just hate that certain vehicles can be glanced to death so easily and don't like the lack of variability representing the many forms of war machine you can get in the universe. Let me know what you think...

First, every vehicle starts with a set amount of Hull Points. It's not too important and could be changed based on playtesting but lets say 8.

Glancing hits: Remain the same
Penetrating hits: reduce the Hull Points by every point of armour penetration above the AV and also roll on the chart.

Now damage modifiers would also be transferred to the HP section so for example an AP2 weapon shooting at a venom removes 2 extra hull points on a Glance or a Penetrate.

Also, when you run out of hull points you are wrecked, but also have the following rule:
Critical Damage: When a vehicle has more HP taken off than it has remaining, it explodes. The explosion is the same as a 6 on the damage chart except the Strength is equal to the amount of extra HP gone after the vehicle would have already been wrecked.

Do you think expanding the vehicle damage system would benefit it in any way?

Hi.
I personaly think the amount you beat the armour value by should indicate how much damage you do.
And Hull pints should be defined as Armament or Mobility.

Eg
Total pen value - Armour value= Damage chart result..

Damage table.
less than 0 NO DAMAGE.
0 to 1.Crew shaken.
2 loose armament point, crew shaken.
3 loose a moblity point crew shaken.
4 loose 2 armament points crew stunned.
5 loose 2 mobility points crew stunned.
6 to 7 vehicle destroyed .
8+ vehilce anihalated .
(Ap 1 and 2 weapons , convert crew shaken to crew stunned on the roll of a 4+)

Eg a land raider AV 14, Ar 3 Mo 3.

Is hit by a rail gun, rolls a 6, +10=16 total pen.
This gives a result of 2 , losses an armament hull point (Weapon destroyed.)
When all a vehicles armaments is destroyed, the vehilce looses mobility points instead.
When a vehicle looses a mobility point it reduces the vehicles movment.
Eg Land raider Mobility 3.(Movment 6")
After loosing the first mobility hull point its movement is reduced to 4"
After loosing the second mobility point its movement is reduced to 2"
After loosing the 3rd mobility point the Land raider is imobilised , and counts as destroyed.

Just a basic outline , I can elaborate if you like ?

Wow, complete overhaul! I love the table, the fact that it could be so varied. Only thing is you're essentially taking it back to the old stunlock situations we used to get in 5th, which i can totally understand wanting to lose.

So the only change I would make is to change the result equivalent to a glance to cause it to lose one of either form of hull point (chosen by the defending player) and no other effect.

Other than that, sounds like a cool system! would you have AP values and open topped just effect the final number?

Seems pretty heavy, why not just glance and pen like normal, but give glancing a table, something like:

1-2 Shaken
3 Stunned
4+ Remove hull point

Then like normal.

Sautekh Dynasty 5000 pts

In your nightmares...

I think that if people really want more variety, why not make vehicle damage a 2D6 table?

Also, stunlocking vehicles sucked. I'm glad it's gone.

2000 points. Win:23 Draw:3 Lost:3

Back after hiatus. I'll see you around!

I think the only way to remove Glancing Vehicles to Death would be that Glancing Hits only remove HP on a 4+ maybe?

Hi again.

I think comparing total armour penetration value to armour value to find result gives more varied and proportional results.

Slighlty revised table.(takeing feed back into account.)
Less than O No effect.
O to 1 Crew shaken
2 armament hull point lost.
3 mobility hull point lost.
4 2 armament hull points lost
5 2 mobility hull points lost.
6 to 7 vehilce destroyed.
8+ vehicle anihalated.

If target is an open top vehicles add 1 to damage table.
AP 1 and AP 2 weapon hits add 1 to damage table.
Ordanance direct hits add 1 to damage table .

Or just double the amount of HP every vehicle has and make penetrating hits do 2HPs in addition to the table roll. doesn't alter the present rule set too much while making it more appealing to get penetrating hits.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Come to think about it, that wouldn't change anything but making glancing hits less deadly.

Yes it would. You don't even know.

Also, this overhaul would make for a lengthy and complicated process for taking tanks.

I also like my tanks being torn apart. I put magnets on my predators so I could see the autocannon get torn off. I put magnets on my ravens so I could see the engine blow out. I don't want to have to limit myself to this silly hull point nonsense, and remove the whole crash bang and wallop of tank warfare this game so beautifully enables me to have.
