Transports for my foot infantry are high on my list to buy. My question was can I buy a Razorback and model it to pass as a Rhino as well (through magnets or some other modelling trick)? If so, that will definitely help save some money. Thought i realize the irony of trying to save money while collecting a 40K army

Yup, easily. Just don't glue on the top hatch and you can switch your Razorback out for a Rhino easily. You could also always use ebay too.

My hope is to e-bay some razorbacks, either unassembled or without the back hatch being glued on. A GW store recently opened in my area, so I'm excited to get my army built up and have some real tabletop battles.

Buy unpackaged rhinos off of ebay and then get 3rd party resin turrets.

But if you are having to play in a GW store, I guess you need the official RB boxes.

Why not just get a rhino? Battleforces come with rhinos so there are ebay sellers that breakdown the battleforces into each component and sell them at much much cheaper than most ways (battleforces are cheaper than the sum of its components and then factor in a 25% discount you can get for a battleforce and you can get rhinos for 20$). I got most of my death company models in this way

Just get a new Razorback and don't glue the top hatch down. That's literally the deciding factor besides the stormbolter unless you plan to pay points for a stormbolter when you use the Razorback. All you need is to not glue that hatch and nothing else. Nothing else at all. Also if you want, don't glue down where the stormbolters go so you can easily swap it out.

Why buy unpackaged Rhinos? Buy unpackaged Razorbacks. Same price, with the Razorback sprue.

If you buy a razorback, you get the top hatch for a rhino and the top hatch for a razorback. All for just a few bucks more than a rhino. Never buy a new rhino when you can get a new razorback.

You don't have to glue or magnetize the Rhino or Razroback hatches. They fit in place very well.

Razorbacks now cost a couple of quid more than Rhinos now.
GW worked out Rhino buyers were buying Razorbacks, and selling the turrets off.

But, the Rhino kit is in all the small tank boxes for SM. The Predator and Vindi kits are Rhinos with another sprue.
The SoB kits, are too, I think.

I know in the US the GW site sells the Razorback for $4 more than a rhino, if you may want to field both razorbacks and rhinos I would pay the extra $4.

Its the same chassis as a Rhino just leave the top hatch unglued.

It is a $4 dollar difference between a Rhino and a Razorback. The Razorback bitz bought seperately are more the $4, so just buy the Razorback and don't glue down the relevant pieces.
