In serious need of Imperial Guard Heavy Mortar Alternatives, the fw ones while decent models are a bit pricey for my tastes
the Kromlech heavy gun look awesome but i am not sure of scale
here are the FW and kromlech one to give you an idea of what I am after

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

ok, after a search and a thought, I think the best option is various Howitzer, maybe a 1:35 M2A1, M101 A1 M115 or similar at 1:35 scale seem to be able to find them for about 10-15 quid
none of them seem as large as the ones i posted earlier :/

PLASTIC TUBING!!!
Nah but seriously, the Kromlech one does look good. Have you though about using the Basilisk plastic kit? I mean, fabricate a simple carriage with wheels and replace the barrel with a short, larger bore barrel?
Actually, after you've done all that, you may as well buy a FW one lol!

tried medieval/industrial era cannon then? use the right scale, slap some wheels on it and put another plasticard tube down it's middle if it's not quite right.

Ramshackle Games released an artilery piece a few months ago, costs £15 for the whole kit but you can buy just the cannon and gun mount separately for £8. The cannon can either be built with the long barrel pictured or with an additional shorter and fatter mortar barrel. The trailer, gun shield, wheels, stabilising legs etc can all be bought separately so if you don't fancy the tractor tyres you can buy it without. Was thinking myself of combining it with a chimera hull to make a cheaper medusa varient. Unfortunately their webstore is down until the 1st october because they're moving their business to a new locale, this is the only pic i had saved otherwise i'd show you the mortar fitting too

thanks for all the advice people.
Viking Child I think you may have given me the winner, in terms of medusage i've decided to splurge on FW for my tanks as i can't really be hassled with converting an enclosed one or baslikisk for that matter.
thanks again

FWIW, I sent a request to CHS as to when they might release an arty upgrade kit. Seems to me like they really ought to do it. As it's another alternative... On that note, I'm not sure if you've seen Puppetswar's cannon: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it just dawned on me that you probably want an infantry piece, not a mechanised piece. check out puppetswar anyway.

That OTT Puppetswar cannon would make a hilarious heavy mortar - just maybe the front half could be put onto a tracked mounting as a self-manouvering artillery piece?
Or a more sane approach would be a shortened Earthshaker cannon, but you'd still need to build a gun carriage mounting for it.

Simple:
1:Take a basilisk earthshaker cannon (few bucks from a bits site)
2: Cut off the barrel
3: Attach it upside down to the mounting bracket.

the basilisk idea is good, but i really can't be arsed constructing a gun carriage.
and the 21cm WW1 mortar posted earlier is like 32 quid each :/
