Hi guys, very new to painting mini's and I have quite a LOT to do, but not sure on what paint supplier to use, Vallejo Army painter or GW paints? I have found two good seeming deals from army painter which are linked below, would these do?
Vallejo does seem quite cheap in bulk but they have quite a few different ranges and so many different colours

My planned scheme is conscreators which is black with red stripe, would getting the bigger sets be a waste? should I just concentrate on getting what I need for now? I have found a few guides to painting black templars and raven guard which is simular colours.

How bright will the red be? That is the real question. Black paint is pretty even across the board in terms of coverage and quality.

If it's a bright red, GW's Mephiston Red is what I'd suggest. It's one of 2 colors from GW that I consider "mandatory". Everything else they sell can be had from Vallejo at less money for more paint in better quality.

So to answer:
GW for the bright red, Vallejo for everything else.
If Vallejo's selection seems too big, stick with the Game Color range.

I also don't recommend large paint sets. How often will you break out an orange or pink paint?

I prefer to buy paints as I see a need for them. I started with just a basic set, one of each major color and a medium silver tone. Then I added to them when I needed a new color. Over 12 years I'm at 150+ paints now. The only time I buy batches of paints now is if I'm expanding a color for sake of variety, which for me is usually brown.

I recommend this also.. I have made the mistake years ago to buy a large set from GW, most of the paint went bad before using it.. I also have the large set from vallejo, most of the colors like pink, purple , and odd colors go unused.. Thankfully I have orks to paint so I use most of the colors, but still leaving about 10 pots of paint unused.. Buy what you need, and if you need to. Expand the choice of color not all the colors.. Will save you a lot of money in the long run..

I ordered the smaller kit of the two, mainly because it has spray paint and brushes and some other paints I know I will need, all the 'normal' paints.

I have the list of paints used in the guide I will be following, SCC's guide i think it is for the raven guard so I will buy them this week and go from there I think, I'll stick to GW paint for now as at least I can get them quite quickly.

Good advice there about the large paint sets, the vallejo deals are cheaper as you get more paints, 40 for 40odd pounds but would be totally lost at which ones to choose from!
