Learnt quite a few things in my first few games, namely 2 troops is not enough, assault termies are weaker when deep striking, i can combat squad termies!!, tanks are weaker but dreads arent too bad, rapid fire range is good!
So with this in mind I have built another list for a game on wednesday, think i am facing Raven Guard
Libby with gate and machine curse
10 man termintor squad, with 2 heavy flamers, will be combat squaded
2x dreads with tl autocannons x2
3x tac marines 10 man, with HB and plasma gun (maybe one gets a flamer?) in drop pods
1 10 man tac squad with plasma cannon and plasma gun and razor back with TL lascannons will be combat squaded
pred with autocannon turret and HB sponsons
Opinions?
2 drop pods will come down first turn and the second turn another drop pod and hopefully two lots of termies, yes my weakness will be if nothing turns up turn 2 and other two tac squads will probably die out quickly leaving me with two scoring combat squads and a scoring unit in a drop pod, will hurt me if there are 3 objectives
Can I combat squad a unit in a drop pod? might be a idea for the 3rd drop pod I am sure from the FAQ's you can as it just says transport.

I think that 3 tactical squads will be enough. The general principle that I work to is a decent sized troops choice for every 500pts, drop whichever one you'd think would be less useful. I'd then use the points to pick up a third dreadnought (if you're playing who I think you're playing you may need it ).
As for the combat squading thing, I think that the answer is yes. IIRC you can choose to combat squad during deployment, and have one combat squad come down in the drop pod and the other deploy as well. If you choose to combat squad whilst in the drop pod though, both squads must still disembark as seperate squads, as with drop pods when you combat squad whilst inside them you can't choose to disembark one squad and leave the other inside, all models must disembark upon arrival. It's an odd rule, lots of different scenarios that needed FAQing.

Shape (or sharpe, something like that!) on chelmsford bunking I am playing.
Might trade out the plasma cannon for ML or something else, or add a multi melta in with one of the drop pods, (if I get the models in time, waiting for the postie now).
Didnt think of the combat squads in transports like that! thanks for the info, with drop pods if wouldnt matter but in LR's it would and I have 3 of those! hehe

Where is the librarian going? If he is hanging with the terminators, he needs TDA so he can deepstrike with them.
Heavy flamers are one of the weaker options for terminators IMHO. If you are using Gate to blip around, the scatter could quite easily put you out of template range. I'm a big fan of ACs just walking across the table. If you want to deep strike flamers, you might want to invest in some homers/beacons.
If you are going to run a drop pod list, I'd like to see more hefty units in the initial wave. Sternguard, dreadnoughts, etc. You drop a tac squad into the teeth of the enemy unsupported, they are dropping to their death. I would also kit at least one of the squads out with MM/M/c-melta sarge to drop next to a tank. All your squads are anti infantry. Alternately, swap a rifleman for an ironclad and give him a pod.
Dakka preds work well and are cheep. Your list is light on anti-tank. I'd upgrade this guy to an auto/las.
A 3 man scout biker squad with a beacon would help with the precision drops your list requires.
You could afford to drop a tac squad to pay for stuff elsewhere. If you are worried about being shy on troops, pick up a 5 man sniper scout unit. If you are still worried, stop sending the troops you have face first into the meat grinder.
This is a workable list. There are things it is going to struggle against, and your reserve rolls can hose you. There are a number of ways you can go with it, depending on what kind of army you want to play.

Thanks for the info Nevelon, havent got a iron clad or sternguard yet but planning on getting both purely for drop podding, in one game I played a 5 man scout squad got shot up and gave the enemy first blood, poor placement on my part maybe suppose I could drop a dakka dread for a drop pred or AT dread Automatically Appended Next Post: Scrub that, drop pods still havent turned up :( only got two at the moment so not liking the one first turn and one whenever.
