Hi there guys i'm new around here and i have a minor problem that i could use some help with. I've recently started to paint up a small group of Blood axes and i have decied to give them Ash waste themed bases, however i have no idea how to paint good looking ash waste bases that has a diffrent feel to it than just all grey and such.

There was one base guide that Gw had up before that showed some ideas about various bases and they talked about one ash waste base with a redish-brow feel to it with some rotten flesh, i however want a more wasteland-rusted metal/chemical feel to my bases.

Any ideas on how to make such a thing possible?.

Last one I did with that theme, I showed the figures slogging through it up to their knees. To add interest, I would include things buried in the "ash" to represent depth. Everything was just grey though - grey and more grey, with a touch of grey (and a few splashes of color where they had wiped ash away recently from their face/guns/kit.

Just painting everything in that more or less grey scale scheme was an exercise in and of itself. If it doesn't appeal to you visually though, you might consider changing what you are looking to replicate.

You could probably through a light red wash in a few key places and give it a kinda smoldering look...
