I've been planning a sculpt or two for the dark ages, which means lots of chainmail.

Just need any and all techniques for sculpting chainmail. Thanks.

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.”

Sculpt like you would heavy cloth, then put diamond holes in it at regular intervals. The tip of a sharp diomond shaped file would work well I think.

My preferred (if much more labor intensive) method.

Simple dimples is probably what you see the most of - either round, square or semi-circle. I have seen a few people who actually do each link from a long string of putty. Pretty sure they are crazy though.

The above method is a good split between effort and result. Once you get going - it actually goes very quickly.

How 'chainy' do you want to get?

Its the simplest way, the only thing I would recommend doing before making the rings is score lines in the direction you want the links to go (vertical or horizontal) and make the space between the lines about the width you want your rings to be in the green stuff, then follow the the vid.

It takes no real extra time and it makes the chainmail look A LOT more convincing.. hopefully I explained it well enough for you understand.

happy sculpting!
