I recently ordered a bunch of paints (and a Trygon) from WaylandGames, and all was good - except for the Brass Scorpion. For whatever reason, the entire pot was mostly filled with red fluid of a strange consistency - almost like a wash. What brass there was had been mixed thoroughly with the stuff and proved impossible to remove from it conventional means. After building a crude centrifuge from a drill and separating the brass from the red, I poured out the red to find there was a minuscule amount of brass paint in the pot.

Yes, I tested it before I did this, before and after shaking it thoroughly. The effect was brass with watery red bleeding out of it all over the place. It wasn't good. There was no point in sending it back or anything, as it's only one pot of paint.

Anyway, today I went to my FLGS and got more. This time, there actually is a pot's worth of brass inside - but the red is there, again. I haven't tested it yet because I wanted to ask; is Brass Scorpion paint supposed to have red fluid in it, or is this just a common issue? Unfortunately, my internet searches only turn up results for Forgeworld's Brass Scorpion of Khorne. :c

I have some Warlock Bronze and it has blue stuff. Im guessing its just a colored medium that goes with the acrylic. You might have gotten one that either wasnt mixed properly or all the brass coloring settled to the bottom.

Mines been fine so far, I just have to shake the bottle to hell to mix the colors together, otherwise it ends up all runny.

I have to say I've never had this problem before with paints aside from having black liquid in my foundation paints but that just mixed back in with no change to the colour, have you tried mixing the new pot that you got to see if the red mixed back in?

Red and blue paint mediums are quite common in modelling paint - off the top of my head, the old Citadel paints Orkhide Shade and Astronomicon Grey both had a blue medium which tinted the paint when the pot had been sitting for a bit. This is easily fixed by shaking the pot until the contents are all one smooth colour. It can take a while.

Yeah, I thought of that - but the way it mixes is most peculiar. I have some Frostbite - a P3 greyish colour - which occasionally gets a blue liquid at the top. This, however, only stays mixed in for a very short period of time, which is weird.

I assume, if the red is supposed to be there, that too much medium was added to my first pot or something. Fortunately, the brass paint stays brass for a few hours - should I just paint with it while it's well shaken-up, perhaps?

Anyway, thanks for the input, guys. Honestly, I'm fed up with this and just want to paint my Berserkers. :'c

EDIT: Time to build a lean, mean, paint-shaking machine out of one more power tools. Woo!

I got a Shining Gold pot today from Games Workshop that had a layer of White liquid in it (almost like milk). I shook it up and the white seemed to disappear, but I found the occurrence very odd.

Its quite common this with quite a few acrylic paints in pots, its just some sort of coloured medium which should be mixed in that separates over time if left standing still.
Theres nothing wrong with it but it can be a pain to mix back in sometimes.
